Hooking up wii and dvd to tv. i have Direct TV, a DVD player and need to hook up a Wii console. i have the direct tv DVR connected to the DVD player by coaxial cable and the yellow/red/white cables connected from the DVD player to the tv. i thought i could connect the yellow/red/white cables from the Wii console to the DVD player but it isn't working. I am trying to avoid having to unhook/excchange the yellow/red/white cables from the tv every time i want to use the Wii or teh DVD player because the connection is in the rear of the tv and it is a large tv so hard to get to. anyone know of a way to hook both the DVD player and the Wii up to the tv? there is only one place to connect the cables on the tv.

you posted a possible solution to my problem of hooking up my Wii to my DVD/VCR combo to Direct TV DVR to TV. you suggested adding a Scart to the DVD/VCR combo. i looked up what that was and that is not what i need - the DVD/VCR doen't have a port like that but i have seen them on other units, and my DVD/VCR has an input and output yellow/red/white connection. is my original assumption correct that i would connect teh Wii to the DVD/VCR and connect the DVD/VCR to the tv? the Direct TV connection is working fine, the DVD/VCR is working fine, it is just the Wii i can't get to come on.

    that is what you said

I am trying to avoid having to unhook/excchange the yellow/red/white
cables from the tv every time i want to use the Wii or teh DVD player
because the connection is in the rear of the tv and it is a large tv so
hard to get to. anyone know of a way to hook both the DVD player and
the Wii up to the tv?

you keep the dvd/vcr playing as normal

    seperatly

because there are no more red yellow white phono cable plugs left on the tv

    there must be scart plugs

get that adapter plug it in the tv plug the wii in to the adapter and then go the AV channel that the scart belongs to

i dont know why you want the dvd/vcr involved with the wii
it will be a overall better viewing system because
if you have the wii going though the dvd/vcr then go to the tv while the dvd/vcr is trying to handle the dvr
the signals from the wii will not be as good if you connected it directly to the tv

also you will use less electricity because the wii only needs the tv to be on

if you did it your way the wii needs the dvd/vcr to be on and the tv to be on

Trying to hook up a dvd and wii with direct tv and can"t get sound out of wii! HELP Can you show me where to plug cords in?

Your TV has two sets of AV inputs. One on the side and one at the back. The Wii has a 3RCA cable ( Yellow / Red & White ) . Connect these jacks to the corresponding color sockets on the side input of your TV. Select that input on the TV and your Wii sound and picture should come on.
For the DVD player you have to get a 5 RCA component cable. This cable will have 5 colored jacks, connect the White & Red to the Audio in of the TV and then connect the Red/Blue/Green jacks to the component video input of the TV.Do the same at the DVD's end also. Setect that source on the TV and you should hear the DVD sound and picture.bobhifi_31.jpg

I cant figure out how to run it through my dvd player

You should not be able to, the Wii has a mini disc player and is not compatible with any DVD player. The DVD player should have two plugs on it, one to the wall input and one with yellow and red input jacks if you don't have a AV in-put out-put connection on your TV then you need a adapter for to TV for the DVD player.

Hooked up my new aquos and cant get the cable to work, my wii comes on , my dvd player too, but the Direct Tv screen is just blank

How is the cable connected to the TV. Is it direct into the back of the TV or through one of the connections like say the wii? Did it work before with the way it is connected?

Can't get my new wii to work

Hello.
Most likely it is not your console. Depending on what type of TV it is there may be many different inputs in the back. My HDTV has 5! It can get confusing. If you have it connected directly to the TV, note which ports the cables are plugged into, then make sure the TV is in the correct output mode. Ex...cables are hooked to Video 1 in, set TV to Video 1 output. Now if you are hooked up through a DVD or VCR player it could be different. If you are hooked up to your VCR and the VCR is hooked up to the TV, the VCR would need to be powered on also. It would be the same for a DVD player. I really hope this helps you. The Wii is very fun!
I wish you much luck. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to click on my "Ask Me" button.
