Unfortunately Kirby Vacuum Cleaner is not designed for floor moping, however you can polish/buff your floors with optional attachement.

Shark Steam Pocket Mop Cleaning Problems

After watching Shark Steam Pocket Mop from the vantage point of Fixya.com for a few months and seeing the many problems that people were having with the Shark Steam Mop streaking their floors and especially hardwood or laminate flooring I decided to do some research and reading about this problem.

What I found was very interesting.

Many people are blaming the steam mop for their problems, when in fact the problem is just coming to light because of the use of the steam mop. It seems that if other cleaners have been used on the floors they leave behind a residue. Then you come along with this mop that produces a heated steam type cleaning and you start to take this residue off of the floors. This then leaves the flooring blotchy or streaking.

So now what do you do with you floors when you get this mop and what will cure your streaking, blotchy floors? There are a couple of ways....

First way is to just keep on using the mop. Many people report that their persistence has paid off and that after a few uses the shine comes back to their floor as the old scum and residue is more completely removed.

The second way is to use a vinegar and water solution to manually clean the flooring before using the mop. This takes a bit more elbow grease, but will get the floor looking really sharp much quicker. Here is a site that tells about that.

So if you are having a heart attack because your mop seems to be making things worse instead of better then don't give up too quickly!! Use it a few times first... it has a 1 year warranty. Or get on your knees with that pail of vinegar water and get the old gunk from all those other cleaners off of your floor first.

I used the steam mop for the first time on our hardwood floors. I tried it on a inconspicuous place first without problem. As I worked on it in the kitchen, two lines appeared on the floor. It didn't...

Hi,

This type of problem usually is not he fault of the Shark Steam Mop.
The problem is the old residue left on the floors by other cleaners.

Here is a tip that I wrote that will help you out with that problem...

How do I change my kirby g4 to sweep/mop mode?

Turn the belt lifter to red arrows matching to sweep the kitchen floor. This stops the brushroll from turning and allows you to use straight suction. There is a hard floor pad available...see the link to my guide and you may find one for sale...
As for mopping...I just dump a small bit of soapy water on the floor and run my Kirby shampooer (with no solution in the tank) on the lowest setting to scrub, then I dry mop behind it to pick up the excess water. There really are no instructions in the manual for scrubbing linoleum, but I just improvised. It splashes a bit, but better than getting down on hands and knees. Here is a guide to hook up the shampooer...
