How many times this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it carefully. These blinks are fault indication, and known as blinking codes. From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON; you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. This will make repair easy. I am experiencing exactly the same problem. TV turns on but within 60 seconds the screen goes black and the red standby light blinks six times. Were you able to resolve this problem on your TV?

I am certified SONY Technician and I can help you for free.
Self-diagnostic function in your TV indicated that you have problem with T-CON board. This is video processing board attached to the panel and acting as video adapter between Main board and LCD panel itself. As long as I remember T-CON is considered to be a part of LCD Panel by SONY and have to be covered by manufacturer warranty for 2 years from date of purchase.
So - please locate your receipt form the store - they WILL ask for it.

This model of SONY TV uses a Samsung display panel, the problem you have is the panel went bad.

SONY was offering an extended warranty to change the panel free, please call SONY to check it out that if they still offer the free replacement.

If the Standby light is blinking at the front panel of the TV, it seems that there is an internal malfunction occurred in the TV. Sony is replacing LCD Panels at no charge until October 31 2012. The KDL46XBR4 and KDL46XBR5. If you paid to repair they'll pay you the cash back you paid to repair it.

I had the exact same problem with the Sony KDL46XBR4. The problem started 11 months after I purchased the TV (Dec 2007). Luckily I placed the call to Sony just before the 1 year warranty expired and they replaced the entire front panel which is basically the whole TV except for the stand and the plastic frame. Last month the same issue started happening again (5 months since the repair). I called Sony and they say they have a 90 day warranty on the replacement part so I would need to pay out of my own pocket to first have the problem diagnosed (it's the EXACT same problem!) and then pay to have the repair done since the warranty has expired. I asked how much the front panel costs and it's $1,400! I paid $2,100 for the TV when I purchased it. Interestingly, at the time that part was back-ordered.....hmmmm, I wonder why??? Perhaps a recall is warranted here (no pun intended). Needless to say, I have sworn off Sony products due to their lack of support for this issue.

A 6 flash failure indicates a backlight problem, either from the backlight inverter board or the backlights in the panel failing. There is a simple problem that sometimes causes this; loose screws holding the boards in place. You can try removing the power, taking the back off the set and tightening down the screws that secure the boards to the frame. the screws are aatually a ground connection and if they are loose it can cause problems. if this doesn't help, you will need a tech to look at it.
