Had same problem with my denon 1910 .... clicking with no sound and some modes indicating not available. Blowing the dust out of the headphone jack solved the problem !!!!!!!!!!!!! ... the denon people could not even figure it out. Thanks sooooo much.

I can't believe it. This same thing started happening to me tonight and I was freaking out thinking I blew my receiver or something. Luckily, I did some google searching and came across this. No Sound with some clicking coming from the inside. Can't believe this solution has worked! I have the AVR589 by Denon. Blew out the Headphone jack with a couple of sprays from an Air can and the sound returned after turning the unit on. Thanks for the HELP! Saved me $$$$$!

Holy smokes... I also spent over an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't get any sound out of my speakers. Even reset my whole system. Should've looked up the solution online from the get-go. Blowing into the headphone jack worked!
Looks like dust in the headphone jack makes the system think that a headphone jack is plugged in, hence why sound from the main speakers were turned off.

Had the same problem with my Denon AVR-1609 but it continued even after blowing and cleaning the headphone jack..so, I unplugged the headphone switch. First..I unplugged the reciever. Then I turned the power back on to clear any held power...then turned it back off agan. I then removed the nine philips head screws and opened the unit. I looked down and located the headphone input jack. You'll see a small green circut board directly below the black plastic headphone jack. There's two small, white wiring harnesses in this green board...one forward (to the front of the reciever) and one directly behind it (running to the center of the reciever unit and plugging into the main circut board). Carefully grasp the wires leading to the FORWARD harness and pull them directly up, unplugging the wire harness. Move the plug aside where it wont touch anything and thats it! You can carefully power up the unit and see if its now working but this should fix it...only catch is, your headphones will no longer operate.
I have Denon AVR-1910. It worked find for over a year but now all of a sudden , I have very low actors sound from a movie (both DVD and PS) . The background sound is fine, it just the actor's voices that are very soft. When I turn up the master volume the background and actor's voices become louder, but the actor's voices are perhaps a 1/10th of the background sound. Not sure what is going on on. I did a factory reset, and that did not help
Blowing the dust out worked for a bit but then it went silent again. Unplugging the headphone switch fixed the prob for good. Who needs the headphone jack anyway?
I have had the same problem and it would keep coming back. Most recently, I could not get the headphone jack to release even with pluging in headphones. Today I was once again was going to order a new receiver but decided to try spaying a little silicone into the jack. Immediately, it released. Hopefully the silicone will not hurt the receiver. At least for now it is working again. This will be my last Denon receiver. This problem has been so frustrating.

I found the problem I was having on this site with this recommendation. I used my vacuum cleaner and sucked the **** out of my headset jack in the front of the unit and then turn it back on. IT WORKED!!! Unit is back to normal and I am a happy camper as I was going to go buy a new unit for well over $500. Thank you!!!

Thank you. My AVR-590 had the same problem, put the Mini Vac up to the Headphone Jack, sucked up the dust and the sound came back, what an easy fix.
