Hi could u please tell me roughly how much resistence should be on a washing machine damper. i have it off and it is really stiff, it is a struggle 2 open and close, the washer is shaking and banging like mad but is spot on level, i am trying to find the culprit and suspect the damper
Could be broken spyder. The three arm part that holds the tub to the hub. If one or more arms are broken, inner tub will bang around a lot. You can test by trying to move inner tub inside of outer tub. If they don't both move in tandem, that is probably your issue.
Damper is stiff. i would look at the springs that hold the tub if you take them off a bad one won t close all the way up also check leg mounts for weak medal

Front loaders are prone to vibration problems. Don't want to go into the technical details of why, but it's important that they're placed on very solid surface (preferably concrete or tile), and checked that their feet have been adjusted so that the machine is level. Unfortunately, most people don't have a concrete pad for their washer. One simple option to consider is to provide dampening of the vibrations. This can be done very simply as shown here. The main thing to keep in mind with this solution is that it is merely trying to dampen the vibrations. Don't be too forceful in your own solution (think lightly touching the top of a vibrating tuning fork with your finger to stop the tone).

What's the exact model of your washing machine? I'll need this to get you exact part numbers.
If you're looking for a quick and cheap fix that works. Try installing a rubber anti-vibration pad under the washer. I've had the best luck with a pad called Silent Feet. They are pretty hard to find in stores but Amazon.com carries the full line of Silent Feet anti-vibration pads. They will provide you with the best results short of replacing the full shock isolation assembly in the washer. And they cost a lot less.

you can check the shocks and check the bolts that hold down the cement wieghts but most likely the spider gear is broke and it's to much money to repair.usually caused by using to much detergent, you should be only using like 1/4 cup of h.e. detergent, any more than that will eat at the spider gear and it damages the rear bearing.watch the video that comes with the washer and read the instructions on how much detergent to use and overloading doesn't help either.hope it's a shock or loose bolts but most of the time unfortunitly it's time to replace the washer.
Your drum is going unbalanced with the load.
Either you do have an unbalanced load but more likely is that the dampers on the underside of the drum have failed. (they are like shock absorbers).
Normally there are springs at the top the suspend the drum and on the underside there are dampers.
There normally are 2 dampers attached to the drum and the frame.
They are accessed by tipping the machine onto its side.
However the machine is heavy and make sure you disconnect power and water if you want to investigate.
Cost of new dampers are around 50 each.
