Hi! My son dropped his BB 8800 in water. We put it in a bag of rice for 24 hrs to dry out. The phone turns on, and we can use all of the controls. When we insert his new sim card (from an ATT store, because he is getting this hand down from his sister), it still says insert sim. When we try to dial out, it says Emergency Calls Only. Do we need to activate the card in some way, or is the phone toast? If another sim is put in, the same thing happens. Thanks, Karen Lash

When you place a new or a existing SIM card from another phone provider into your mobile phone and it asks for a Security code then :-
This phone is locked to the original mobile phone provider. You need to contact this mobile provider to ask for the unlock code (security code) for this phone. You need to provide proof of ownership etc and the phone's unique IMEI number which is located inside the phone under the battery. They use this number to generate the unlock code for your phone.
They should provide you with instructions on how to enter this code into the phone.
Once you unlock the phone, then you can insert a new SIM card in this phone or sign up with another phone provider using this phone.

You could ring the phone provider and ask for the unlock security code because you are going overseas and wish to use your phone with a prepaid SIM card from another country. This maybe a free service.
The other way to get your phone unlock is to use a phone unlocking company on the Internet, they usually charge a couple of Dollars for their services. Use Google and search for "Security unlocking code” for phone unlocking companies in your area.

My nokia n95 dropped in water now m unable to perform any functions...50% set is nt working, just i want to transfer all my msgs n contacts to my pc...any suggestions

Hi welcome to fixya.com.Switch off the phone immediately. Dry the phone, battery, sim card, etc. with cloth and wrap each piece, phone and accessories, in newspaper. Place a few handfuls of rice into a plastic bag and then place the wrapped phone in the bag with rice. The newspaper wrapping avoids direct contact of rice with your phone because the dust from the rice can get into the small areas of the phone. The newspaper and rice will absorb moisture. Leave it there (with the bag open) at least 24 hrs. Then check if the phone works . Hope this solves your problem. Have a nice day.Bye

I recently jumped into a pool with my cell phone in my pocket (SAMSUNG Reality). I realized it 10 minues or so after. Dried the phone. A day later, the phone will turn on when connected to charger...

When phone gets wet NEVER try to turn it on. Take battery out right away shake water off and put both in bowl of rice for at least 24 hrs. If your not home or don't have rice right away take battery out and get some. We have a bowl of rice on the counter all summer long for those who jump in the pool with phone in their pocket. I have washed them dropped them in the toilet my son jumped in pool with his phone, put it rice for 24 hrs and we were up and running with the exception of the one in the pool, that one cost me new battery on Ebay ($4.95) but phone worked fine, didn't even lose contacts or pictures. But the key is to NOT try to turn it on after its been wet. Water and batteries don't mix.

You may have done permanent damage by putting the battery back in too soon. Remove the battery and put the phone in a warm dry place and leave it for week to dry out internally. Maybe it will work after that but you're most likely looking at having to replace it.
