Wireless continually goes off and on (I mean connects and disconnects). The signal is strong, but the laptop keeps disconnecting.

The cause could be any of the following:
  • Interference. Many other wireless devices operate near the same frequency. In the US, there are 11 different channels. Try selecting a different channel and see if that helps.
  • Your wireless adapter driver maybe out dated. Check to see if there is an update.
  • Either the wireless adapter or the wireless router / access point is defective. USB or PCMCIA wireless adapters are inexpensive and easy to install as a test. I have had good luck with the Trendnet USB adapters. For the router / access point, are there any other users who can connect without continuously being dropped?
  • Router / access point firmware maybe out of date, look for an update.

My new d link router works fine..but my acer laptop wont pick it up...it says limited access? what does that mean? I have the security key..it has full signal..just says limited access

Most probably you setup WEP on your router and you're not typing the WEP Key on the computer you're trying to connect to the router.
You could try to remove all security first and once you can connect to the router you add it.

Ensure your wireless adapter's configuration matches the wireless configuration on router. Also ensure your wireless adapter driver status is working well.

If your computer OS is XP, you believed you have correct configuration and you have tried all solutions but still not working, then most probably it's due to winsock problem. You can even try winsockfix to fix the problem, here's the link WINSOCK. Hope it helps..

make sure the access point or router is on DHCP then connect the computer, but if its on dynamic IP... them enter an IP in range of what you have on your AP/Router

Dell 3300 adapter

Hi,

Let me recap, just one more time.
Your wireless router,
You updated the firmware(most have out dated firmware from sitting in the warehouse)
Broadcast SSID
Using WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security
Mixed mode(b and g, n if available) This is needed for wireless devices to work properly.
Channels 1, 6 or 11. These channels are the channels most wireless devices work on the best(I use channel 11)
Now for the printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

The patch is password protected. The way around the password protected zip file is to open the zip file with Winrar or 7zip(.exe file)

Restart your computer.

After router is done, now setup your wireless print server/printer.
3300 Utility
3300 Firmware
Attach the 3300 to your computer using the USB Cable and insert the 3300 disk. Follow the instructions. It should ask you for the network ID, type of security and password.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
Install the drivers, choose network, choose I'm using a wireless print server(if you do not see this, then choose add printer and you should see it then) and follow the instructions.

Thanks for contacting Fixya

Laptop connection to Internet

In the simplest terms buy a longer ethernet cable or multiple ethernet cables and route them to several preferred areas.

However believing you probably would like to connect wirelessly

If your laptop has a built-in network card and originally came with Vista you may need to configure the network adapter and/or the router appropriately. There are often user guides for the both the adapter and router that will assist.

If your laptop has an built-in wireless adapter and you upgraded to Vista you should check the manufacturers website using support or drivers links to see if they have Vista software/drivers to support your built-in wireless adapter. IF not you may want to consider the purchase of a compatible add-on wireless adapter as noted below. And perform the appropriate configuration(s) as noted above.

Likewise if your laptop does not have a wireless adapter you may wish to consider purchasing an adapter. Care must be taken that the adapter is compatible with your computer, your operating system (Vista) and your wireless router (apparently WBR-1310).
