Have Win7 on Dell laptop and need to dual boot with Win XP.

I have a Dell laptop (Studio 1440) that came with Vista and an update to Win 7. I need to be able to dual boot with Win XP. I know XP must go on first but when I put in the install disk - it can't find the hard drive. I think I need an XP driver for the SATA internal HD. Where can I get it?

So - do you get credit for telling me it will be hard??? It's NOT that hard, I just need a driver for the SATA HD for Win XP so it can FIND the darned thing. Dual booting is easy. And why are you asking WHY I need to dual boot? I need answers - not questions.

Win 7 isn't the problem - Win XP is. I already have Win 7 on it. I've partitioned the HD. Since XP must be on first (Microsoft won't let you put an older OS on - only a newer one) I'm prepared to format and reinstall both. But XP doesn't see the SATA internal HD. As you start to install XP it says "hit F6 if you need to install a driver...". I need the driver it is asking for. And that is the one so it recognizes the HD.

I can't wipe the HD unless the XP install can see it. The install starts, gets to the point of asking what I want to install it on and says there are no HDs present.

Create a new partition on your HDD.

    Iinstall Windows 7 from it.

  • Anonymous Dec 31, 2009

    Wipe the HDD.

Create TWO new partitions in the windows xp install CD.

Install windows xp on the first.

When installed, restart and go through the setup again ONLY this time install XP on the 2nd partition.

Load up XP on the second partition.

    Install Windows 7.

    Happy Days!!!

Sir, Your laptop is working perfectly. It is not that Win 7 is not recognising the dual cores of the AMD TURION 64. The information interface in Win 7 was designed that it recognises the dual cores as a single processor. So dont worry. Try "Advanced System Care" to repair all your registry, spyware, hard disk and all OS related problems. It too shows you the System Information. There are also lots of websites that scans your laptop and tells you the system information. Google it for those sites. Thank You.

Needs driver for vista or win 7 Sony VRD-VC10 DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

Sony does not support this burner for any operating system for Win2k and XP. The VRD-VC30 is supported in Win7 but no earlier models (from the Microsoft Compatibility Center). The Vista Compatibility Center lists the VRD-VC20 as unknown for Vista support.

There are work-arounds. Install XP as a virtual computer or in a dual boot configuration on your system and install the hardware on the "XP box". If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install the XP mode for a free virtual computer. (This requires you to download two programs from Microsoft and install them (Virtual PC and the XP mode itself). Otherwise, you will need a valid XP license to install in the virtual computer software. The dual boot may work better for you since virtual computers can't share files from the main computer directly. They need to be transfered to external media or a different partition or disc that unmounted from the real computer and mounted on the virtual computer.

I hope this helps.

I have win 7 and win xp loaded on my lap..How can I delet xp now?

You need to check if there any Boot Information in partition that is used by WinXP. In this situation best way is to reinstall Win7, and format all your partitions as you want in Win7 installations process.

I search for a driver vista or win7 for magigcolor

If the manufacturer of the copier does not make a driver for vista or win 7 64 bit, then you can't use it.

I ran into the same problem a few years back when I upgraded to XP pro 64. I resolved the problem by utilizing Microsoft dual-boot feature. When I need to print or copy, I rebooted to my XP 32 bit system to do the work.

Eventually I purchased new equipment that was compatible with 64 bit systems

Dual boot vista/XP on dell studio 1737, drivers needed ?

For the video drivers you might try the intel generic drivers for xp these should work here is the process.

For the audio use the latest vista driver and then follow the steps here.

The latest driver in combination with f you are using Microsoft Windows XP*, you may need to first install KB888111.exe, the Microsoft* UAA High Definition Audio Package version 1.0a. should work.
