Nintendo Wii works fine on standard tv but not on hdtv.

Nintendo Wii works fine on standard tv with red/white/yellow cable, but when connected to hdtv I get a bad quality black & white picture with good sound. When I use component red/white-red/blue/green cable I get no picture and no sound, just blank screen. Hdtv's work fine. Hdtv input is set to component. Someone tested the component cable on their hdtv & Wii setup, and it woked fine. This would suggest the problem is with the Wii. I want to be able to connect the Wii to a hdtv as well, any ideas what problem is would be appreciated.

No I have not because the hdtv option on the wii is only availabe when component cables are connected. To connect the cables to the wii, I must also connect to the hdtv. This is the problem, I cannot get a signal from the wii to the hdtv.

I gave the wii unit to a friend today to try in his setup, and he has just informed me that it works fine on his hdtv's. The only obvious difference between mine and his is that both mine have freeview on them and 1 of his does not and the other does, but was not connected to an ariel lead. When I get it back tomorrow I will try disconecting the ariel and see if that makes a difference. But still looking for ideas from anyone out there who has come across this problem and found a solution.

    FOUND THE PROBLEM !!!!!
The problem appears to be the Freeview somehow interfering with the Wii signal. When the ariel lead is removed the Wii works fine, and the audio/visual signal is great. When the ariel lead is in I have the problems.
I hope this solution proves to be of use to anyone else having similar problems.

How do i connect my nintendo to my samsung led tv

I am assuming that you are talking about a Nintendo Wii.  When you buy a Wii it comes with standard RCA composite cables that are three colors, Red, White and Yellow.  Yellow is the cable that carries the video signal and the red/white carry the stereo audio signal.  You would need to connect these cables into the corresponding color inputs on your tv.  Plug the yellow ended cable into the yellow jack on your TV and do the same for the red and white cables.  After this is done, you will need to switch your tv's input to the input that corresponds to the one you plugged those cables into.   Some newer flat panel TVs do not come with RCA composite inputs.  If this is your problem, you will need to get some component cables for your Wii.  These cables look identical to RCA (composite) cables but come in colors red, green, blue, red and white.  In this case the red, green and blue cables carry the video signal and the red and white carry the audio.  You can purchase these from just about any store that carries the Wii or online from places such as Amazon.com.

http://www.amazon.com/Official-Wii-Component-Video-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B000JJRV90

You would hook these up the same way by matching the colors and then changing your tv to the corresponding input.

Hope that helps!

Conecting Wii to a Phillips lcd tv. rwy cords. but the picture is in black & white ?? i have sound. tried different connections eg: red to green conections & the only one that works is still black...

it sounds like you may be trying to plug a standard composit video cable (yellow) into a component video input (red, green, and blue)
these are actually two different connections. Most LCD tv's will have both options (sometimes there in weird different spots on the tv tho) if you don't have a standard RGB (red, white, and yellow composite video input) then you may need to purchase a component cable either at a local store or you can get one for $5 on Ebay
hope it helps!
~good luck!

The picture appear black&white. I have HDTV.

I had this problem with a 'universal' console component video cable. Had a B&W Wii screen, and couldn't set the Wii to HDTV.

Spent most of an afternoon switching the Wii between LCD televisions, annoying Samsung tech support (who are a very, very good tech support system, by the way) and so on.

Took back the cable and the guy said, "Did you remember to turn the little TV/HDTV switch here?"

There IS a tiny little switch on these combo cables, right on the common point of the various console connector plugs. I switched it. It worked. All is good again. Hope so for you too.

Can I hook up a wii game system to my lg plasma tv ?

it depends on which cables you want to use for your wii. there is the standard A/V cables that are yellow, white, and red; or the component cables which are red, green and blue with another white and red.

For standard A/V connection: on back of TV use "A/V INPUT" (below "MONITOR OUT")
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/setupAV.jsp

For component connection:on back of TV use "COMPONENT INPUT 1" (or 2)
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/setupAV.jsp

hope this helps!

We have sound but no picture on our Wii

Connect a DVD player using red white and yellow to the TV if you get picture and sound, then reconnect the wii red, white, and yellow to the same input.

If only the wii does not show video you will need new red white, and yellow cables. I would try a friends red, white, and yellow cables first even to their TV where their wii is already working.

If new cables are not working you will need to contact Nintendo as there is an issue with your wii. You can't change the wii video to progressive without a component kit, and since you have yellow you obviously don't have a component cable for the wii.

How do I hook up my Wii Console to my new Emerson

I found a better way and it works fine. I have a new 32 inch Emerson, with only one composit hood up ( which won't work with the wii) 2 HDMI's ( again does not hook up to the wii, the monitor hook up for PC, red and white ( yellow plus is not there it's for a stereo they told me), and the usb hook up ( which is more for pictures I was told by the company). The answer was to hook my RCA plus to the red and white under the composite, then hook the yellow into the green plug of the composite, and behold- my will now works fine.

Boot up Wii and only get a blank screen, Have sound

Make sure that you are connecting the RCA (Red/Yellow/White) cables into the standard input RCA slots on your TV/VCR. If you are plugging them into the standard output slot or an HDTV slot that is likely the problem.

Connect tv to nintendo wii

Do you have cables for the wii? I would try the cables in the package to connect your wii to your tv. Your tv should have a analoge connection. In form of a scart or in form of three plugs. If you are using a scart just click it in the tv and in the wii. With the three pulgs you must connect all three plugs in your tv, they have matching collors, white in white, red in red and yellow in yellow. That would do the trick.
