I have a Dyson DC28 Animal and it won't release from the upright position. It is only 2 months old and was working fine. I emptied the canister after cleaning -clicked it back in place and the next time I tried to use the machine and put my foot on the front carriage to release the handle - it won't budge.

Why is my Dyson DC28 not running? The lights turn on but there is no motor movement or sound. I was vacuuming my car mats to get the animal fur off when it died.

Hi Sara, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC28 shut itself off while you were using it, it sounds like it may have overheated. Like most Dyson vacuums, it includes a safety device which shuts the vacuum down for protection if it begins to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, or because the filters are overdue for a wash.

DC28 has two filters, which should be washed at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely before replacing them:

To check for any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/dc28filterwashvid/wand-suction-dc28

I'm confident this will help, but if you would like some further advice from our experts after giving this a try, please call us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Why won't my Dyson DC28 animal handle won't tilt down to vacuum

Hi Robert, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you're having difficulty reclining your DC28 from the upright position, it's possible something like a pen or pencil has been accidentally vacuumed up, and is jamming the changeover valve.

Our Support guide should help you check for this: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/using-my-dyson-list/redirect-to-flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/redirect-to-check-ubend-cover-dc28/check-ubend-cover-dc28

Suction only coming through the wand when its replaced its not switching back to the upright. I have a dyson DC28 animal

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC28 doesn't seem to be working correctly. It sounds as though the change-over valve may be jammed - this diverts the suction to the hose when you remove the wand, and back to the cleaner head when you replace the wand on your machine.

You may find a blockage is jamming the valve - you can check for this using our online Support guide:

If you can't find any obstructions, please get in touch with us directly as we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance. If you email us at [email protected], we'll be in touch as soon as possible.

I got my mother a Dyson vacuum to replace her old hoover...she's used a few (3) times. I was at her house yesterday and attempted to use it to clean up some crumbs. She told me the last time she tried...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear *********** is having difficulties with her DC28. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered. If it's not doing this, check the clear U-bend at the rear of the machine for obstructions. For guidance on doing this, please see the link to our Support page below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1236&product=DC28-ANIMAL

After removing any blockages from the U-bend, stand the cleaner upright, and try reclining it again. It might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock mechanism has jammed. If this doesn't help, or if you're reluctant to try this, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to [email protected], someone will be in contact as soon as possible.
