6050 yamaha receiver issues

The problem must be with the Amp's video processor. Did you try using both the HDMI cables one by one directly form the PS3 to the TV and confirm if its not a cable problem.
Next try switching the PS3 video output to 720p or 1080i. if the picture is ok your Yamaha is have having problems processing Full HD signals.Was it OK before or you are trying this out for the first time. More on reply.

please try to find new firmware for this model, I guess it is HDMI version compilable problem. maybe after update firmware could fix your problem

Check your audio settings in the receiver "main menu" set them to "Auto" Then check your audio out settings on the PS3 for whatever you are using (RCA or Digital) Hope this helps. If you still have an issue, post a comment and I can help you some more.

You have to "learn" the IR. Yamaha has discrete on and off commands. which universal remote are you using?

I'm working on one right now. It seams that you are not selecting to correct program for the dialog. I would not use music enhancement on dialog content.

When you connect the optical cable to the ps3 you must change the output to optical on the ps3. To do this, startup your ps3 then go to settings then audio output settings and change it to Digital Out (Optical).

S-Video and Composite are analogue and HDMI is digital. Your receiver dose not have the capability to convert from analogue to digital and hence you are not not getting any video.

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.

It seems the Denon and PS3 don't play nice together on DTS. If you take off the DTS setting, then the PS3 will use DD and you'll get surround for games and movies.
