You need to verify that your card is confirmed to work in the MR8 at this site:

http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/support/MR8_Operation_CF_20071213.pdf

It is OBVIOUS that your card is not acceptable because it is larger than 2GB.

Bounced trks 3&4 to 7&8 clicked on wav file button canceled says out of capacity

You have a memory problem. If you are using a flash card for memory or a CD drive or perhaps you have configured an external drive, you need to free up some space. Try deleting tracks or songs you don't need anymore.

Each song is independent on a CompactFlash
without affecting other songs. You can give a desired song name for managing recorded songs
(see pages 23 and 91).
Recorded track data is stored in a song as mono WAV files.
The MR-8mkII can convert the two WAV files recorded on tracks 7 and 8 (L and R) to a stereo
WAV file (see page 115).
You can export the converted stereo WAV file to your USB-connected personal computer, and
use the file by a music software application or make an original audio CD on the computer using
a CD burn software application. You can also burn an audio CD by using an external CD-R/RW
drive connected via the [USB HOST] port of the MR-8mkII (see page 115 and 123)

My Fostex MR-8HD states "Illegal song name" when

On page 22 of your manual, it appears that the warning message is used for more than one thing.

Make sure that you have entered the new song name text and it is accepted since if the name is not entered and accepted you will get that message.

If the text is unacceptable OR you try to advance to song creation when name has not been accepted will bring up that message.

The manual is really poor and I can understand your frustration.

It is UNCLEAR to us exactly at what point in the entry the message appears. Have you entered all the song name using all letters and then selected the enter function below? Does the message appear before you select the enter? or after you do...?

My Fostex MR-8HD recorder's LCD display won't show me anything when I turn on the recorder. Everything else power's on and works properly. I can even hear it it working. I can't see the LCD display...

Check if the display has a contrast control. When these get turned down, the display is blank. Sometimes they are a littel shaft coming out of the case, other times it is a setting in a menu... how they expect you to see the display to set it in these cases is beyond me...

Compact flash that i bought wont work san disk 4 g ultra says error 9

USUALLY the ultra and high density flash cards have trouble working in most music equipment.

Only buy the cards up to 2 Gb and verify compatibility with one of them before buying more.

Why does it say "Illegal song name?" No matter what I type in for a song name on my Fostex MR-8 HD I get this same message. I am not typing in the name of a song already recorded. Even if I just use the...

Note that the name of the song CANNOT have blanks and the use of special characters is limited.

If you need a space in the name you have to use the underscore to creat a "space".

I have a Fostex MR-8 MKII 8-track recorder, and as soon as I turn it on it says 'card error' and 'illegal format'.My compact flashcard is 2GB Sandisk, how can I solve this problem?

First you can format the flashcard FAT-32 on your computer. If that does not help your card maybe broken or the brand is not supported. Than try to use another brand. Kingston and Transcend always make te best choice.

I have the Fostex MR-8 mk II without the burner. I'm having trouble as of late at exporting my finished song to a laptop computer. It's worked fine in the past. Could it be my USB cord is bad? The computer...

USB cords are cheap and can often be found even in Thrift stores... try a new one to eliminate that possibility... I will say they RARELY go bad unless they have been abused.

Remember that reading a USB stick by the computer is FAR different than transfering data from the Fostex...

MAKE SURE the driver for the Fostex in your computer is intact...

OFTEN the stupid DLL files that were working get CLOBBERED by new software and suddenly old things that used to work don't anymore... Thank MS for the stupid thing of allowing new software to change DLL's.

My new fostex mr8hd-cd 8-track recorder is unresponsive at times in the middle of a function...what could be the problem?

Is it plugged into a power socket with an anti-surge & anti spike adaptor to stop the small power variances. Try that and if it's not that go to the Fostex website and ask them just in case there is a small problem with your machine which is a very nice one indeed.
Good Luck.
