Windows Vista Sidebar Gadgets Not Loading Properly

Hope Someone Can Help. I am using Vista Business Edition on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. For whatever reason the gadgets in my Windows Sidebar arent loading properly. For example the Clock gadget appears totally black with no numbers and the Notes Gadget doesnt show up except as a little rectangular shape which is black in color.

The last thing I did prior to this happening was to do a system restore since the comp wasnt loading properly and after that I downloaded an update for Windows Defender.

Any thoughts to what went wrong and how I can get the gagdets to work again would be greatly appreciated.

Still didnt work and yes I used ccleaner. I downloaded netframework 3.5 instead of 2.0. Does that make a difference?

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2008

Hi....I tried it but still no result.....thanks for all your help tho....hopefully the Vista Service Pack will fix it....either that or I'll just format the computer and be done with it.

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2008

I had downloaded AVG Antivirus Free Edition.....but this was after I did a system restore of the pc. The only other thing was an update for Windows Defender definitions.

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2008

Yes I did all of that. Still no results. I will have to try and deal with this later as it is getting late for me. Thanks for all your help.

I have the same problem Gadgets will not load sometimes just a black strip where gadgets should be . If I click in that area a message asking me to shut gadgets down or re load will appear but clicking one of these options will not make gadgets load. After re- booting computer several times the gadgets will load OK. This problem appeared before and after updating to Vista SP1 RC.

1.) close sidebar and exit it
2.) accessories> command prompt [right click and choose 'run as administrator']
3.) type in these three in the given order

regsvr32 msxml3.dll [enter]

regsvr32 scrrun.dll [enter]

regsvr32 jscript.dll [enter]

after each enter you will get a success dialog window

Open sidebar and it should work.....

Save the below lines in a text file and rename it to bat (.bat), then execute the batch file as administrator. it worked for me.

taskkill /im sidebar.exe /f regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll regsvr32 /s scrrun.dll regsvr32 /s jscript.dll regsvr32 /s atl.dll Regsvr32 /s "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sbdrop.dll" Regsvr32 /s "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\wlsrvc.dll" reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones" /f "C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe"

Windows 7 gadgets working wrong

You dont need side bar anymore, rightclick anywhere on desktop and goto gadgets, Add the ones you want, put them where you want (side, top, anywhere) and thats your gadgets as they were in vista.

If you have installed Windows 7 beta then you must be aware of the bug that whenever UAC is switched off, Sidebar and Gadgets in Vista fails to display properly on Windows 7 Desktop. Though this is not for every machine but many users have reported this problem that their Sidebar and Gadgets are not working properly.
For older beta versions of Windows 7 there had been some temporary workarounds for the same problem. But if you are using Win7 Build 7000.0.081212 then this can be fixed using a simple registry hack which like in Vista will Elevate your Sidebar and Gadgets Process.
If you know how to play with you registry Editor then just open regedit.exe from Run command in Windows 7 and go to KEY
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings From there edit the DWORD value of AllowElevatedProcess and set it to 1. You don’t need to restart your Windows 7 computer after this. If your sidebar and Gadgets were not working properly earlier then they will be fixed instantly.

WE ARE UNBLE TO ACCESS WEB CAM INBUILT IN DELL VOSTRO 1400 FOR WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM.PLS GIVE SOLN.

Is the Web cam driver properly installed?

If no, go to windows start button, point to computer, right click computer, clice manage, click device manager.

If you see an exclamation point or X mark sign you need to re-install the driver for your webcam. If you have a cd-installer, just put the cd on the dvd rom drive then run it. If you dont have an installer cd you can download the driver from the Dell site.

Are they the same - windows vista 32 bit platform edition and windows vista home basic 32 bit sp1

Yes and no. Think of 'platform' as a general header when looking at operating architectures (there are different types) and Vista choices.
Vista choices under the 'platform' 32-bit are:
• Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
• Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
• Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
• Windows Vista Business 32-bit
• Windows Vista Enterprise 32-bit

Another example of the "64-bit platform" and Vista choices are:

• Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit Edition
• Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition
• Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Edition
• Windows Vista Business 64-bit Edition
• Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit Edition

When opening sidebar windows installer opens .

It is likely some sidebar gadget you've got installed that wants to use bluetooth.

Take a look at the installed gadgets, and see if that makes sense. To administer gadgets (I am assuming the sidebar is not opening properly), but do try to start it, then:

Start
Control Panel
Windows Sidebar Properties
View list of running Gadgets
Remove any gadgets that may cause the trouble.
