Sony 8mm Camcorder

I have a Sony CCD-F77 Camcorder that Auto Shuts down when I try to record or playback video. I get a error icon on the view finder that is a triangle with a line under it. The owners manual says contact Sony. This is the second camcorder with identical symptoms. I had a CCD-F70 that did the same thing. I baught the CCD-F77 used so I could transfer my movies to DVD. I finished transfering one 8mm tape and the thing quit. It seems this is a common problem with this camera but it is too old to get tech. support from Sony. I'm sure someone has encountered this problem and has fixed it. All I want to do is transfer my 8mm movies to dvd. Please help.

Lynn

SOURCE: Viewing Tape recorded from a different camcorder

If you want to record your video tapes on to DVD's using your computer you will need to install on to the computer a video and audio capture card that is compatible to the player that you are going to use for the source. Along with that you will need to install the necessary software that comes with the capture card set, and also you will need the matched interface cables. The computer will also need a large enough hard disk to hold the video information.

You need a player that is compatible to read the old tapes. You can feed the player to a video capture card on your computer. You can then record the video programs on to your computer. After they are recorded, you can start buring DVD's.

There are also professional services that will transfer video tapes to DVD's. They will have much better quality equipment than what you could afford for home use, and you will save a lot of time, energy, and cost compared to doing this yourself, unless you are determined to do it and don't care about the time and cost.

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-F77 won't power up

Sony F77's are known for bad power supply circuit boards. I have one that powers up enough to eject or insert a tape but will do nothing else. Recently I took it to a repair shop. Paid $30 to have it diagnosed but elected not to pay the extra $164-$215 to have the board rebuilt.

It is difficult to find people who will even diagnose these old camcorders, but the repairman said the shops that rebuild the boards get 10-15 a week because people really like the high quality of this particular model. I paid over $1500 for mine in 1983 or so and may yet decide to have it rebuilt.

The repair shop I took mine to is Westronix in Salem, Oregon.

SOURCE: Transfering 8mm video tapes to dvds

Hi there. You need to transfer your videos to your computer and then burn them to DVD using a program like Record Now, or Nero. You should be able to get this from Best Buy, or you can get it online from their websites. If you have any other questions, let me know with a comment. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

My sony CCD-TRV118 camera has lines when you record or playback video. Sort of happens when light throws on it.

I've read not to point the camera directly into a bright light or sun or else the symptom you describe may occur.
