Minolta DiMage Scan Dual IV

I have not used my scanner in quite sometime, but every time I try to find the slides under "index scanner" it will not process. It reports: error 29, ICC profile cannot be opened. How do I solve this? HELP!

I want to install Dimage Scan Dual IV van Konica Minolta under Vista

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2008

Exactly the same. No TWAIN driver for Vista. No support from Sony who now own Konica-Minolta. Scanner can be resuscitated by downloading VueScan (but you have to pay for it).

; manufacturer's driver, go into Device Manager,
; open Imaging devices, then click on the scanner name
; with the right mouse button and choose Uninstall.

5. All the normal Minolta programs now work just fine. Enjoy!

You have to replace the original Konica Minolta driver with the custom one I posted above. Let me try to clarify my seteps.

    1) Install the Konica Minolta XP software in Vista.

    2) Plug in your DImage Scanner into a USB port and turn it on with the door closed. It will detect and install the original Konica Minolta Driver.

    3) Create an empty folder on you harddrive (for instance go to my computer, double click on the c: drive, then right click and create a new folder named newminolta).

    4) Open windows notepad and copy the following into it:

; scanners.inf -- Test Vista Minolta Film Drivers
    ;
    ;
; To remove this driver and install the original
; manufacturer's driver, go into Device Manager,
; open Imaging devices, then click on the scanner name
; with the right mouse button and choose Uninstall.

    5. Now save you new notepad file in the directory you created as newminolta.inf NOT as newminolta.inf.txt or newminolta.txt (i.e. c:\newminolta\newminolta.inf)

    6. Go to system control panel (may have to change control panel to classic view to see system).

    7. Select Device Manager

    8. Select Imaging Devices

    9. Right click on Minolta Scan Dual IV and click on driver tab. Select Update Driver.

    10. Select Browse my computer for driver software.

    11. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

    12. Select Have Disk

    13. Browse to c:\newminolta\newminolta.inf and click OK

    14. Click Next. Vista should now say it updated driver.

    15. Run Dimage software with door closed. Wait for it to initialize and green light stops blinking.

    16. Open door and insert film holder and start scanning.

It worked! I almost tossed my Dimage scanner out, but your solution worked without a hitch. Thanks for sharing - much appreciated.

Many thanks for easy solution - scanner & software now works fine with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

  • bunnychester Apr 28, 2011

Fantastic many thanks for a simple fix. Saved my dual scan IV from being binned, managed to get the fix to work on win 7 home edition but not not on XP.

  • Anonymous Jul 23, 2011

This is sooo close - I've tried the above and it nearly works. The Utility now starts up, scanner whirrs a couple of times, then Utility hangs. I'm running Win 7 home premium 64 bit

  • ghardym Aug 15, 2011

The driver worked but I can't get the scanner to function. When I insert the film holder it will go in a short distance and then eject. Does anyone have a suggestion?

  • Anonymous Mar 01, 2012

I have a Scan Dual III which now works with this fix under Windows 7 - many thanks!
Just out of interest, where does one learn to program something like this?

  • harrybird Apr 08, 2020

Absolute genius! Thanks so much. So many folks say they have a solution but turns out they don't. Yours worked perfectly. Thanks again.

I solved this problem by using VirtualBox to create a virtual disk in Vista, install XP inside it, and install minolta dimage scan dual with its drivers. It works perfectly ( and can use it for other software that needs XP ). After that, just share the scaned jpeg with Vista.

Does anyone have a service manual for a Minolta Dimage Scan dual IV? I think I have dust on a mirror or lens and seed to take it apart. Having the service manual will make it a lot easier.

I do not have an answer for you, unfortunately, as my Dual Scan IV is doing almost the same thing....my unit will not load the 35mm film slider - when it tries to load, it makes a fairly loud clicking or ratchetting sound. This occurs each time I push the film into the unit. Have you had any replies or have you found a solution to the problem. Thanks and good luck.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV Film Scanner driver in an IMac

DS Dual 4 even works with SnowLeopard on a CoreDuo MBP. But it doesn not support Autofocus when used under USB2. You have to use a USB1.1 Port, if you want to use autofocus function. Every time the software crashes, because you tried e.g. to use autofocus with USB2, you will have to close the application, go to the folder User/Library/Preferences/DS Dual4/... and look whether there is a file name something like "MFSlib...." and pull it to the trash bin. You can start the application again. PS.: Your keyboard USB port is a USB 1.1 port!

Konica minolta dimage scan dual IV

Are you doing index scans or prescans? Sometimes the software gets funky - try doing at index scan if you are doing prescans, and vice versa. Also try CHTL+SHIFT+I which is a recalibration (don't that will do anything but it can't hurt). The best thing might be to just remove Dimage totally (you may have to delete the main folder if you've created any Jobs) and then reload the software. Before you do that, update your virus software, do a system check, and maybe some maintenace like a Defrag - then reboot, remove the software, reboot again and reload software.

Forget about the Minolta software. It's buggy at best. Use VueScan instead. A free trial is available so you can test it before you commit to buying it. Available for Windows including Vista.
