How do I get my breville cafe roma espresso machine to pump water out of the water tank and through the machine? It won't create steam or brew coffee and the water level in the tank won't deplete when the dial is turned to the functions of steam or coffee. model # is ESP8XL this is the first use of the machine

Same thing happened to me and I had to push down on the water tank a little more firmly. It looked like it was seated okay but I guess it needed to be pushed down more to open the little spring-loaded opening at the bottom.

    I just got this machine for Christmas, bought a massive supply of espresso and came home to make my first cup - same thing - the tank is full, I'm pressing down on it and the motor is just burning but nothing is coming out and the water won't deplete. So irritating!

you really need to decalc frequently, at least every 2 months. after it goes too long, you will see that problem. have not figured out yet how to fix it.

Make sure the filter is clean, that in the holder and in the machine. If it is clean then i think your pump have to be replaced:-(

Steam from brew head, but no water
Hi,

  1. If you take the coffee filter and head it in light, can you see a little hole in the middle? if not, try to clean it else you have to replace it.
  2. Can you brew out water without the filter holder in the machine? If not, loosen the screw in the middle on the machine where the filterholder shall be and take of the filter. Clean the filter and put it on the machine again.

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.
