This can happen if your CD/DVDs are scratched or damaged. But, if this happens with CDs that are readable in other systems, then there can only be one reason.
It seems that your CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced. It is possible that your drive lens can no longer read the data from your media [CD or DVD]. Many gamers [like me] abuse the drive lens through extended gameplay. A good quality drive will generally give you a minimum of 2,500 duty hours of continuous read. So, if you have played your favorite FPS or RPG for 100 days of 24-hour play time, that drive is probably ready to croak.
