Your system has dropped into a "boot loop".. The best way to fix this is to place your Windows install disk into the machine, then reboot. Go into the BIOS screen and change the boot sequence so the PC boots from the cd or dvd drive then save and exit (F10). once the system gets to the "press a key to boot from cd" option, press a key and let the installation system start up. This will detect an exisiting installation BUT, when it asks if you wish to repair using recovery manager, Press NO.. Then it will go to the setup screen and ask if you would like to fix the existing installation, press YES and setup will replace the damaged system files and re-write the MBR. Let setup finish and remove the disk at the end of the installation then reboot. All should now be well and your files should still be available too..

Place your windows cd/dvd in the tray and boot to the cd. When asked if you want to install windows, there will be a repair option further down towards teh bottom, or you will be asked to click R like before. The repair only works if the cd is in the tray.

My Acer Aspire 1500 laptop wont pass startup.

It seems that your laptop hardware is good and it seems that it is a software issue.

  1. Boot in safe mode: When your laptop start, press the F8 key. then it will ask you which boot device to boot from, browse using the arrow keys and chose something with HDD and press ENTER and then press the F8 key again. Then you will be given a boot option and choose SAFE MODE.
  2. While in SAFE MODE, try to uninstall your newly installed software that might be causing the laptop to hung up.
  3. Also, click Start => Run then type: msconfig.
  4. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck the many programs that looks not necessary to load while windows is loading. The program like Yahoo Messenger, Skype can be opened manually so uncheck them if present.
  5. Click Apply then OK.
  6. Restart your laptop and see if it helps.

Have a Sony VGC-RB60 Series PC. Got back from

Try the booting from the windows cd and repairing the os? if not working you may need a fresh install which means you will lose your data but your pc will still work. You can always download from www.ubuntu.com and burn the os to a cd rom and boot from cd, this will load a verison of linux, When cd rom starts chose RUN LIVE CD, this will not change the pc at all, when the os starts up you can go to places at the top and go through all your windows files and save the ones you want to keep to cd or external hd, then reistall windows, or who knows you might love linux and enjoy something thats free :)

System wont boot

Disconnect all devices except keyboard and mouse and master cd or DVD. unplug then hit power button. Plug back in. Hit power and hopefully you get to BIOS. If you do make sure you save the BIOS before you leave to start OS. Keep me informed and I'll keep checking your listing to see if its working or not.

Keep the battery unplugged but make sure you have the power cord still plugged in, and when you see the toshiba screen press F8 i believe or F1. In there you need to change to the boot order so that the CDrom boots first if you want to try and restore from CD

Restoring computer factory settings

another suggestion is boot the system from your OS disk, if you have one, and repair or reinstall OS. Reinstall should not cause you to loose any files.
