Samsung HLP4663W color wheel replacement

I just replaced the color wheel in my Samsung HLP4663W DLp tv. Now the color is off and the picture in not clear like HD should be. What should I do to fix this problem? I have read that removing the "jumper" near the color wheel could solve this problem, is that true and how do I remove it??

I used the BP96-00674A color wheel and the lamp that is inside the tv is #BP96-00608A(P).

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2008

The exact model number from the back of the TV is HLP4663WX / XAA.

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2008

    Yes! Same EXACT problem here.

    Did you find a solution?

    Thanks!

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2008

No I have not heard back from anyone with a solution yet

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2008

No....one of the color glass pieces to the wheel was broken inside the assembly when I took it apart. I had to vacuum the glass pieces from the area where the color sits. I did replace it with the replacement part number from Samsung. Samsung was out of stock, so I ordered the part from Sears parts using the same part number from Samsung.

I hope not....that was not easy to put in, do you know of any speical color adjustment or color reset that can be made...it is like the dark colors have a really bad showdowing effect.

  • Anonymous Feb 19, 2008

I have heard about that jumper.....does it just pull out with pliers?

  • dan0472 Feb 20, 2008

yesterday I also replaced the color wheel on my samsung hlp4663wx/xaa the install was uneventful but i am experiencing the shadowing on the dark colors is there a fix for this

Can't locate the yellow tag or the black jumper cable in the same model. Having problems with colors being muddy after installing the bp96-00674a. Original colour wheel was bp96-00099a. The values on the old resolution are also different from the new colour wheel. Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2008

I think that I might have taken the tape off with the number when I installed the new wheel, I will have to take the TV apart again to find out, OH WELLL. If the number is still there, is there a way to get to the service menu from the remote control?

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2008

Thanks....I will give that a try!!!!

I also have the same problem after replacing my color wheel. I first assumed it was a faulty new part...ordered a new one and same result. I read on some forums to enter the CCA values that came with the new part however there is no menu when entering "mute-1-8-2-power". I did not remove the jumper b/c I was not sure which one was the jumper. Does anyone know how to enter the CCA Values on a 4663WX model?

Im having the wxact same type of shadowing as described but have not changed or touched my color wheel...any suggestions?

  • qdubb Dec 31, 2008

I too was able to set the CCA Values for the Red, Green, Blue, & White x & y values. I was not able to find or set the Lv values. I couldn't find that at all in the menu. The sticker i received had index delay and actuator but no values beside them. With that said my picture issues are similar to those mentioned here after replacing the color wheel. Any help greatly appreciated.

I had a whinning/bussing noice...I too just replaced the color wheel in my HL-P4663WX/XAA DLP set. It was very easy and now turns on with no noicse, however, the picture started with a orange screen and then when the picture came up, everything was blue. I have heard of a jumper cable issue and possibly having to set the CCA settings again, which should I be looking for? Please advise.

Same problem - I replaced my color wheel and now have poor screen colors - predominantly blues - but the jumper wire access hole in my TV (Samsung HLP 5063W) is blocked by a plastic black bracket fastened to the DMD PCB. I can't figure out how to get this bracket off -anyone know how to do this? I am almost ready to take a small hacksaw to it, because I think the bracket is just there to hold wires in place. Help -I am so close to having a working TV again!!

When I removed the jumper wire the screen color problems I experienced after changing the color wheel were fixed completely. I did not need to reset the CCA values (which came with my color wheel, on a separate sticker). If you have a black bracket blocking access to the jumper wire, as I did, you can access the jumper wire by removing the fan shown just to the left of the yellow and white sticker; there are two screws attaching the fan to the chassis below it. Next, remove the two screws that hold the silver clamshell (the housing for the circuit board) halves together. These screws are right behind where the fan just was, on either side of the protruding fins. They each have a spring under the screw head. You can then pull the visible half of the silver housing forward (with the bracket attached). You will then have access to the entire circuit board. Look for CN810 - it is located right behind where that bracket just was when it was all put together. Pull the tiny black plastic part (that has the jumper wire) off of the pins. Then reassemble the housing and put the fan back on.

A tv repairman here in Denver came today and fixed the color wheel on my Samsung hlp-4663W. Though it cost me $400, the repair was done in 10 minutes. The guy made it look extremely easy. He also wrote on the invoice that the color wheel was defective, telling me that many of his customers have been able to get the cost of the repair reimbursed by Samsung because they know there was a design flaw in the color wheels. I will try and fight that battle tomorrow. My color wheel was a non-bearing wheel, but he said the glue on it failed, causing half of it to shatter.

We just went thru hell solving that problem. Yes, there is a little black jumper like that used on a computer board that needs to be pulled. The jumper is pretty close to the middle of the bottom of set, just below a yellow tag.

The jumper is on the dmd bd. close to the dlp chip heat sink. Need tweesers or small needle nose to slide the jumper off of the two small pins. Each BP96-00674A color wheel has the new CCA settings taped to the new wheel. You must enter the the service menu and reset the CCA's for this color wheel.

Color Wheel problem

Replacing the color wheel can sometimes switch Red With Blue. If you remove the jumper it could fix the problem.

Here's an article on it's replacement.
