No power 60VS810 TV--power outage last week while TV on. Went off although in a decent surge protector. Other components plugged into same surge protector still working. Help--super bowl around the corner...

Appreciate a response. Actually have tried the option 1 and 3 multiple times. Don't see a reset button, but sure have looked all over for one.

Funny thing is--bought online along with an extended warranty. Seems like HDTVtime.com has gone out of business and they never gave me the registration number to Repair Master. What a rip off!

  • HLBK Jan 27, 2008

yes--phone disconnected and no more website. will go with a local repair shop.

    Thanks!

Unplug the tv press power on and plug it back in.
some of these units have a reset clearly marked on the back.
connect direct to wall as the surge protector may now have issue.

First, to answer your last question, not all power outages and subsequent surges are created equally nor are all surge protectors. Also, after a power outage where the subsequent surge is so strong that it got past your surge protector and knocks out your TV and it's never done that before... REPLACE YOUR SURGE PROTECTOR.
However, that being said, in my experience it is unlikely that the TV is going to require a technician. Understand that the person that you spoke with in tech Support is not a technician and is reading off of a list of troubleshooting pages that are more extensive then what's in the manual. What the technician is probably not aware of is that your TV, like most home electronics, has a safety failsafe that requires the device to be separated from power completely before doing a system reset
First, after pressing the button it's supposed to flash for about a minute anyway but I'm assuming that after it's done pressing that the TV is still not firing up.
Unplug the TV, let it sit for an hour, plug it back in (to the wall, not the suspect surge protector). If the light is still flashing, press the reset button again and wait for it to stop flashing and attempt to turn it on again. If it doesn't work, unplug the TV, follow the same steps however, let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it back in. That length of time is not common but some sets do require it.
If none of this works, then I would say that it's time to call a technician.

I hate to tell you that this happened to me last week and mine is 18 months old. after calling toshiba and going through all troubleshooting, nothing worked. they referred me to a service center near me and the repair is $466!!!!! I have lots of power outages so they can seriously damage a tv (the motherboard to be specific). Mine is the 42 inch 535U. get a surge protector for your cable and ask your electric company to install a power shield on the meter or a surge arrester.. good luck.

Surge protectors are meant to trip whenever an outage occurs to prevent component damage. If possible remove back panel and check if any fuses were burned. If all looks normal then your component is most likely fried.

Tv won't turn on

I had a similar problem when there was a power outage or the lights went briefly out. I unplugged the TV and left it for a few days/weeks and then plugged it in and the TV worked. I think newer TVs should be treated like a home computer and put them on surge protectors.

electrician do one thing, electricity. If the unit cools, the compressor is running. a power outage should not put the compressor in a "Weaken" state. I would check the starting components. don't overlook your surge protector causing a voltage drop. try running the unit without the protector.

power the unit down totally from the wall socket to allow it to reset. It may have had a processor scramble in the outage and not selecting audio inputs correctly.

Tv won't come on

Sounds like the typical power surge created by the outage has caused a power supply problem inside your TV. IF that is it, there not much you can do yourself.
