I need to replace the door handle on a GE spacesver model #JVM130K. How do I get to the screws that hold the handle on? Thanks.

  • tn12 Mar 08, 2008

I have the GE JVM163 microwave. I am able to open the rim around the door and expose two of the four screws from the handle. I don't see how I can get to the two bottom screws behind the inside door. Can you give me some insights how to expose the other 2 screws? Thanks in advance for your advice.

There is a pin holding the door on upper right hand corner of the door. Holding the door in the open position, lift up on the door a little and remove the pin. The door will come off. There are two screws on the edges of the door on the end where the handle is located. Remove the screws. Now, Take a slim screw driver, and carefully pry between the inside door panel and the ourside door panel starting at the end where the door handle is. Lift the inside of the door out. The opposite end of the inside door panel will come out last. Believe me, this works. Getting it back together is a little bit different, but it snaps back together without using tools. Just put the inside of the door back by laying it down with the handle side down after you have replaced the handle of course. Now, pushing in on the inside of the door panel starting on the handle side, start with lining up the panel and push gently. It will go back into place much much easier than it comes out.

For the Dacor PMOR30S, bthompson is correct on the door removal. If you can't get the door to "remove", there is a small plastic panel inside the door at the top hinge. Just gently pry that loose with a small screwdriver. It will expose the top hinge and you will see how to lift the door out. After the door is removed, you must remove the rectangular plastic panel inside the door. Start at the top hinge and gently pry the panel loose. it makes lots of cracking noise coming out but it is [generally] not breaking. I cracked mine near the top hinge, but it stayed in one piece and it reinstalled easy. Note there are not two screws on the edge of the door as bthompson describes above. But after the rectabgular panel is removed, it exposes the two screws that hold the door handle. Just remove those and all broken plastic debris. Then install your new handle. Be sure to tighten the two screws on the backside of the new handle before you install it (they may already be tight). Also note that the handle can only be installed one way - you can't flip it top to bottom. Tighten the handel screws, gently reinstall the rectangular panel, reinstall the door, reinstall the small panel at the top hinge. You're done.

The back of the door will have a moulded surround that will be fixed with allen heads or small screws. Remove the inside cover of the door and you will see the holes for the handle.

Replace the buttons on a kitchenaid microwave Khhs179lss-5

First, you need to uninstall the microwave (MW) from the cabinet by removing the screws that hold it in place at the top. Open the cabinet doors above the MW to locate the screws.
You will need someone to help you at this point in removing the screws and dropping the MW down. Be sure and unplug the MW before you remove the screws.
Next, you need to take the cover/shell off by locating and removing screws A/R. They are mostly across the back and side bottom.
From there on out, you should be able to methodically find and locate the various fasteners that will get to the button pad.

Replace door handle on microwave Kitchenaid KHHS179LSS. I have the part.

You will need to access the door handle mounting screws and remove it to replace the door handle. To access the screws on MOST microwave ovens, you must remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. This can be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife to carefully insert in the seam and pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful microwaves.

With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place and seats properly.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches. NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Handle broke off, model # khhs179Lss-4, wna to

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.
If you have not purchased a new door handle yet, the part number is 8205431 (White), 8205433 (Black), 8205432 (Biscuit) or 8185456 (Stainless). A new one can be purchased at pcappliancerepair.com for about $40-46. Make sure you order using the correct part number to ensure you get the right color.
