The convergence ICs have failed. You will need to install a convergence repair kit. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model Panasonic from www.tvrepairworld.com which contains both of the Convergence ICs , the associated resistors and the cD with detailed repair instructions.

PICTURE HAS DISTORTED HORIZONTAL LINE IN CENTER OF SCREEN.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Convergence problem

Hello llamacrew,

The answer is yes you can do it manually, but you don't have the time to do it that way (12 hours), and that is 12 hours if you know what you are doing and have done it before. I would suggest that you do it by using the remote and going to the menu that allows you to adjust convergence.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Red horizontal convergence PT-47WX49E

converge outputs getting tired or limiting resistors opening up. adjusting this incorrectly will make the situation worse keep in mind that overdriving these chips will cause a fold over of your image when you see this carefully adjust in the opisite direction as you may be overheating the outputs

Convergence problem not fixed after replacing STKs

I found the chips easy to replace, but time-comsuming due to the number of pins involved. I woudn't want to try it if I'd not had prior experience with soldering.

Still no response to the original question though. With 2 replaced STK392s, red is still not moving in horizontal alignment. What gives?

Adjusting CRT yoke for convergence

You shold not have to move the yoke. if the set will not adjust, find the problem in the convergence. It is probably an IC starting to fail. Good Luck
