I have 5 channel sound from tuner but no sound through HDMI from tv, cable box, or dvd player. Receiver will not switch to 5.1 Dolby when in these modes. Hookup is tv to HDMI out, dvd to HDMI dvd, and cable box to HDMI dtv/cbl. How do I remedy?
The RX-V365 cannot process audio from the HDMI cables (you will still be able to hear it on your TV), you will need to run a seperate coaxial or optical cable into the audio input for the relevant component on the back of the RX-V365.

ok a bit confused, Tuner ? like amplifier or Tv Tuner ? regardless seems like a easy fix .
First your cable box as 3 cables:1st . Power cable to outlet 2nd. From the wall ( usually a Coaxial cable coming from outside box ) into cable box.3rd. HDMI or Second coaxial cable ( One of these usually goes to the back or side of your Tv depending where inputs are located.) Now Dvd has 2 cables 1st to Power2nd. To TV ( Hdmi or Coaxial ) On the back of your Tv will have 2-3 HDMI inputs . Assign 1HDMI jack to each media your trying to use.In this case TV HDMI 1, HDMI 2 DVD. Assigning HDMI's will now reflect on your TV menu selection. Choosing HDMi 1 or HDMI2 from Tv menu will allow you use or view desired Media option in this case DVD or TV. Now if there is Amplifier / Tuner involved like to connect surround sound to, connection may be a bit trickier however same principal.Plug all media into HDMI 1, HDMI 2, respectively, this time to the back of the tuner NOT to back of TV.Once you have done that You will need a third HDMI cable now from the back of the Tuner ( output Jack, usually has lighter color markings indicating Output HDMI) to your HDMI 1 jack in the back of your TV. Now you have bridge TV/ Cable , DVD into Receiver / Tuner and Selecting media will now be done not through TV Menu as before but through Tuner / Receiver menu or selection. Good luck .
You also have to connect a SPDIF coax or optical from both the DVD player and from the STBox into the digital inputs on the rear of the receiver. And select them with the remote control.
1. Connect cable to cable HD DVR box, connect video out of cable box to Sony receiver TV video in, connect audio L and R out of cable box to Sony receiver TV audio in and connect TV out of receiver to video in of Panasonic projector
2. Connect Audio and Video out of DVD player respectively to DVD in of receiver. Good Luck :)
The lack of video in the DVD can be isolated to the DVD players output mode, if you are using the component video out on the dvd player then be sure to follow the componet out of Receiver to the tv component inputs, if you are using the HDMI from a DVD HDMI into RECEIVER HDMI then go to TV HDMI, you cannot mix component and HDMI on this model of AVR receiver and acheive results, in other words keep the COMPONENT to Component and HDMI to HDMI signal path, the results will be similiar quality audio and video UNLESS you are doing a blu-ray source which will result 1080P quality, all other video, HD results to 1080i, about the audio, if all 5.1 test tones are satifactory to speakers but on playback modes for DVD or HD tv signals all you are receiving is LR which is basically 2 channel (stereo) you need to enable a MULTI-CHANNEL capability input, this must be a option on the DVD Player Audio MENU output, be sure it is set for DOLBY DIGITAl 5.1 or DTS outputs, be sure to have the receivers digital input enabled if you are running optical cable or coaxial digital for the audio, you will be sending a multi-channel input to the receiver when the Receivers Faceplace LCD displays 5-6 speakers. If it shows only LR or two speakers it is not locking into a 5.1 audio input.
Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.
Do you have set-top-box or antenna-cable directly to TV? You have connected TV with received via HDMI, but that won't work in this direction - TV has HDMI INput only, not output. You can use HDMI to connect HDMI-out on DVD player for example to HDMI-in on receiver and HDMI-out of receiver to HDMI-in on TV. But to get sound from TV to the receiver, use spdif optical or coax cable if TV supports that - this way you will get surround sound. But also your connection via analog white/red RCA plugs should work, but only for stereo sound.
Hi, You have connected from PC to TV right??? 1.To get the video you have to connect to TV 2.Please take a separate cables for to listen audio and to watch video, for audio connect cables from DVD Player to Home Theater you can listen the audio for video please connect the HDMI video to TV Where You can enjoy both.
HDMI may not output sound. Go into the setup screen of the DVD player and go into audio setup. Make sure you have it set for PCM or equivalent DIGITAL setting. If you set that and you still get no surround sound, you will have to use and optical cable between the receiver and the DVD.
I have the same problem with my Sharp Lcd and Onkyo 804. I believe one problem is that the TV can not accept dolby digital or dts digital audio signals through HDMI. It will play sound if it receives a PCM signal through HDMI. You can try switching the type of signal on the cable box settings and on the dvd player. I switched to PCM and got sound through the TV and the receiver. The problem is that PCM is usually only a 2 channel signal and Dolby 5.1 will sound better through the surround sound theater system. I have not found an absolute solution to this yet, but I am willing to not get sound through the lousy TV speakers in order to get top notch sound through the Onkyo.
