I bought a Minolta EP1083. The guy I bought it from couldn't get the paper jam undone. Did that, but all the copies have a grey background on them. Tried cleaning different things as mentioned in the manual, tried turning out lighter copies. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions? Would really like this to work for my home business.

When you tried adjusting the manual adjustment to lighter did it improve? If so, you may just have to clean the optics of the copier. It is easy to do. If you want to try it? Do you have a doc feeder? Turn the copier "off" and "unplug" it from the wall. Next open the doc feeder or cover for the copyboard glass. On the left side of the copyboard glass where you line up your orginals to the sive scale. There are " 2 " small #2 phil. size screws that hold it on " most of the time silver. Unscrew the 2 of them and left up the scale plate, CAREFULLY if you have a doc feeder there will be 1 or 2 spings there. Remove the spring and the copyboard glass. Next move the optics/ mirrors SLOWLY to the RIGHT side of the copier and with a dry and clean rag wipe the 3 mirrors of dirt CAREFULLY. Once you are satified they are clean return the copyboard glass and the 2 springs if remomed and return the scale and 2 screws. Then plug the copier back in and turn " on" the optics will go back to the Right postion by themself. Next make a copy and if it better you are done, if not you may need a new OPC drum & cln blade & a developer change to solve any C.Q. problem. Call a service company at that point.

When I adjusted the setting to the lightest possible it helped, but only for the very first copy. After that they continued to get darker and darker.
