On the Sony MDR-NC20 model the head phone lead is fixed and cannot be replaced. If the lead is broken it is a lot easier to just replace the entire headphones.

My samsung nc20 freezes when it gets into windows. How do I start up my nc20 in safe mode? I held down F8 at startup, but it did nothing, please help before I throw this netbook out the window!
If it will not even pull up safe mode, chances are A) Your hard drive is toast B) Your windows install is toast. you would have to reinstall the OS or try and OS repair.

You do not hold F8 but tap it while booting. That will get you into safe mode

Click on the speaker button on the bottom right of your computer and go to mixer and make sure nothing is muted
