Take the battery out and check the pins on the connectors and make sure they are not bent or damaged.

Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

You have a faulty motherboard. I would suggest replacing it.

befor you order a new battery, try cleaning the battery contacts with a q-tip and some alcohol.

The power adapter MUST BE a Dell brand power adapter.
If it is, then the socket that was replaced is not the right part.
Of course, the laptop can work just fine with the power adapter, it justwon't charge the battery.

sounds like you bought a bunk battery
