Battery not charging. Computer is brand new. Works fine when plugged in, however icon below reads 0% charge available, plugged in, not charging''. I took the battery out and reinserted it, and still no charge

If the Acer is brand new then it is under warranty. Take it back to where you bought the Acer and get it fixed under warranty. if you attempt to fix it yourself you will most likely void your warranty.

NEW Battery not properly charging

Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

If the laptop works fine while plugged in but stops working while unplugged, It's likely that either your laptop battery is broken or your laptop battery is not charging properly. Below steps can help you identify the cause of this kinda problem
1. Leave Power plug in
Make sure the computer has been charging from the power plug for at least two hours before attempting to unplug it.

2. Remove and Reinsert Battery

In some situations the battery can become loose. Removing it and then put it back into the laptop.

3. There is Some Software

Use battery utility to determine the total capacity of the battery. For example, Battery Care Software is a free software utility capable of doing this.

4. Refreshing Battery

Some laptop manufacturers allow for batteries to be refreshed through the CMOS setup.


If problem still there. try Replacing Battery or Power Adaptar.
still the problem persist take the laptop to Service Center

Battery will not charge. Got startup message about not being able to determine wattage. Icon says plugged in not charging. Computer was dropped on power jack. Replaced power jack. Gives computer power...

The power adapter MUST BE a Dell brand power adapter.
If it is, then the socket that was replaced is not the right part.
Of course, the laptop can work just fine with the power adapter, it justwon't charge the battery.
