Perhaps the L. Mar. is set there. Turn it on wait for the por sequence to complete, touch the mar rel key, back space to the far left, press L. mar key. If that dosen't do it tou must have some lights flashing and/or beeping, What lights and how many beeps?
First check to be sure the printwheel is properly installed, then try turning it on while moving the flat keyboard connectors, if this starts it see my tip under WW1000.

? Cartridge..Do you mean ribbon cartridge, print Wheel, or Printer Ass'y. Also check line space LED's for error codes.
Clean the sensor located on the printer ass'y (located behind the print wheel) with air.
Also (power off) make sure the printer ass'y can slide freeley (L-R-L)and no obstructions have fallen into it's path.
There is also a printer home position sensor located on the far left bottom of the printer ass'y travel path. Also clean with air.
