It may be asking for the bios password ,as the bios may be set to not allow any virus to write to boot sector as does the recovery cd.
can you enter the bios ok.

I think this is a cd you created and the password is the one you created to allow your own files to be written.
I find no way around this except to delete the password and recreate the cd
see the restore cd manual page 2

Ok there are two ways of fixing this.
A. If you know a bit about computer hardware this would help. If you clear the CMOS you have to do this by moving the CMOS jumpers.
B. The simplest way is to take out the battery in the motherbard for about 10 seconds and put it back in. This will reset the motherboard and it should take out that request for the password. I think this password was created in the BIOS. Let's hope this helps you out

PC freezes on boot-up

Try booting the thing in Safe Mode. Upon startup (after the Acer logo goes) press F8 several times. You will be offered a menu select Safe Mode (at the very top of the list). If the system reaches the desktop, you can repair your Windows. For the three fixes below you will need to go Start Menu>Run...
1) Write: fixmbr, and press ENTER.
2) Write: fixboot, and press ENTER.
3) Write: chkdsk, and press ENTER.
(The later will take several minutes, but you can read what stage it is doing).
