I have the VSX-1019AH-k Pioneer receiver and i want to increase the bass. When i go to setup for the speakers the SW option is grayed out so i can't put it to plus. Help?

Just buy a replacement remote made for the device.

I imagine you could but you must consider their impedance (probably low) and make sure to manage the bass so it goes elsewhere. Define them as SMALL.

If you have multiples to use I'd recommend wiring two of them in series for the center to 1) increase the impedance and 2) move more air. Proceed cautiously with the setup and usage until you assess their ability to handle the power. Listen for any signs of stress.

There are several things you can do, but taking the simplest things first into consideration.

Wiring. If you have any loose speaker terminal connections at either end, or any stray strand wire near the receiver chassis it can cause this problem. It's likely that this is actually NOT the case in your particular situation as it appears to be volume control related, but this condition will also cause an overload message as well.

Speakers...lack of efficiency/sensitivity, high or otherwise unstable Ohm rating will require more power. Ohm ratings are based on a nominal impedance (resistance) of a specified input voltage by industry standards, and can vary considerably with signal frequency. Higher impedance occurs as input frequency is decreased...more on this later.

System setup. How many speakers are connected? Each terminal is designed for one channel connection. If you have multiple speakers, i.e.; spliced in series such as with separate enclosures that have multiple drivers, this increases the resistance and power consumption dramatically.

After the above considerations are addressed and resolved but you are still experiencing the problem, do one or all of the following;

Check your audio configuration. If your system has an equalizer, loudness control or "bass boost", turn them off. More bass requires more power from the amplifier, thus can be a cause of the overload you are experiencing.

Adjust your crossover. If you are using an active subwoofer, increase the crossover frequency point in the speaker setup menu of the receiver. You may or may not have to set your other speakers' setting to "small" to enable the digital crossover feature, but setting them to small is preferred in your case. This will allow the subwoofer (if an active one) to handle a broader spectrum of the bass frequencies, rather than the speakers that are being powered by the receivers' amplifier that is currently being overloaded. It will also improve the sound quality. You however, do not have to have connected nor use a subwoofer to do this type of setup, simply increasing the crossover point will omit some of the lower frequencies that are putting higher demand on the amplifier. Alternatively, you may also increase the crossover frequency at the source material, such as your CD or other player instead of in the receiver.

This works for all models of AV receivers when you want 901's as Front L&R speakers..

Get yourself a nice separate amp, draw the Front L&R pre-out signals from wherever you can find them. On many, there is a pre-amp out for every channel in case you want to run external amps for any channels. That is how my old Pioneer VSX-36TX is equipped. For others, you may have to borrow the signals from a typical Tape- or Adapter-Out RCA pair. Just remember, AV receivers disable digital inputs as soon as you switch in a Tape Monitor, so choose one you won't have to switch IN. The signal Out is always there regardless of the monitor state.

Patch the Active EQ directly off that point (Amp In from the receiver, Amp Out to the new amp). Run all the speaker level settings on the AV Receiver and rock on.

Check if your KuroLink is on or off. There are a lot of problems that users have been having with the KuroLink on. Since you have a Pioneer display, KuroLink might help in switching both the receiver and the display on and off together, but my advice to you would be play around with the settings (in your case, especially KuroLink). Also remember, the KuroLink is on by default i.e. if you've never changed this setting, it probably is on.

The DVI output usually transmits only video (I'm almost 90% sure about this). It would be better if you did not use the DVI to HDMI cable. Receivers and displays can be very picky when it comes to using HDMI. Your Motorola DSR505 has other output options on its rear. I would suggest using the Component out for video (the 3 outputs colored green, blue and red) and either an optical or coaxial for the audio. The Pioneer VSX 1019 AH-K has the required inputs. Of course, you would require new component and coaxial/optical cables to do the job.

Series the speakers, they may not get as much power as you would like, but your receiver will last longer.

did you tell the receiver that you have a subwoofer connected (thru the quick setup)?
