We are having the same problem and replaced the lamp. It worked okay for about a week, then started the same thing again. We checked the lamp and it is still intact.

the same 3 yellow blink over and over. will not turn on, did replace the lamp. so now what?

  • Xris77 Mar 01, 2009

Mine is doing the same. I replaced the bulb and it only worked for about a week. Sometimes thought it took 3-5 tries before it would fire, then it would come on. Now nothing at all. Both the old bulb and the new do not look blown in any way. Something else is causing this.

Just called Toshiba about this. After the TV attempted to boot up several times.. the blue light, power light, came on. But the yellow light, lamp light, gave it 8 tries (just like the manual says it will) then the blue light goes out, and the yellow light (lamp light) comes back on with a red blinking light (red light is the fan light)
So mine was the fan gone bad! :(
So if you have a red light it's the fan, if it is the yellow light, its the lamp, and sometimes it may be both. If not, its the data board, which you can replace and reload too. So it's all fixable.
Try unplugging the TV wait about 2 hours. Then plug it up and turn it on. If it still does not boot up its one of the parts listed above. Thanks

There is an unusually common issue with these TVs after nearly 3 years of use. Like florescent lamps, the lamp ballast eventually starts to slowly fail. This is one of the first indicators of it being near death. The TV will occasionally come on normally and stay on, and then, either not turn on, or turn off after a period of time. For the period of time that it auto-shuts off, check the fan first. If the fan runs fine, then the issue most likely points to the ballast. Toshiba is aware of this issue. Go to the Toshiba website and enter your TV's serial number. You may have one of the serial numbers covered under the lifetime replacement warranty that Toshiba has put these TVs under due to multiple issues with the light engine including the lamp ballast. If you're confident with just replacing the ballast board or pulling out the light engine (really easy by the way), you can advise Toshiba and just have them send the updated part designed to last longer.

Try a reset. Start by unplugging for 1 minute, then plug back in & if still won't restart try the following. If none of the following work, you will need a technician.

How do i determine if my ballast board or capacitor is bad in my toshiba hd tv model no 57HM167?

The chances of the ballast failing are small on this model. Count how many times the Yellow light flashes before it pauses. Then google 57HM167 and the amount of blinks. ie " 57HM167 Yellow light flashes 3 times" That will tell you what you need to know. You can also post it here and we can help. I suspect you have a stuck fan(the fans are monitored to see if they are spinning. If not, they will not allow the TV to start up). Or you have the cover for the lamp not installed all the way. There is a switch that the lamp cover activates and the the TV will not turn on without it secured.

What is a pc broad cause my tv won't come on and i have heard it need a pc broad

If you are seeing the yellow light blinking 3 times repeated over and over the boot data is corrupted. Download the firmware update(link below)from Toshiba and unzip2_bing.gif the files and folders, copy the unzipped files & folders to a SD card (like a camera uses,I used a 2 gig). Unplug the tv and insert the card into the slot hidden behind the cover above the HDMI inputs. Plug in2_bing.gif the tv and watch the yellow blinking stop and a solid blue will light when done. Unplug the tv, remove the card, plug in the tv and all will be good. You could now install the update per it's instructions.

Not picture the green light blinks for a min and than the yellow light stays on. I checked the lamp its good and I cleaned the filter>

If the standby light blinks upto 3 times then the issue may be related with the LAMP.

If the Standby light blinks more than three times then the TV requires service to diagnose the issue.

Provide the Model # of the TV so that we can provide the exact solution.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TV was working earlier, today came home no green power light no nothing

I looked up the manual online - after you replace the bulb, you need to reset the bulb life timer. Using the TV remote push the menu button, SETUP menu, select the lamp reminder option to reset the hours to zero. That might help the status indicators.

Tv keeps turning off?

cutta, you will most often hear a click on boot then the fans start up and lamp will then fire. The picture will start to show up....at what point does it shut off? and do you hear a click when the tv is turning off? Is it the complete tv shutting down, fans and everything that turns off? Do you see any lights on the the front panel "POWER", "STATUS" or "LAMP", what are they doing? If you see a Power, Status or Lamp light after it shuts off the below are what they mean if there is an issue. POWER - STATUS - LAMP - CONDITION/ISSUE: Off - Yellow - Off - Temp. high/dirty filter/excess room temp Off - Off - Yellow - 4000 hrs. Lamp usage warning Off - Off - Blink Yellow - Lamp Cover open Off - Blink Yellow - Off - Air Filter Cover open Off - Off - Red - Lamp failure (failed to turn On or broken) Off - Blink Red - Off - Fan Has Stopped Off - Red - Off - Circuit failure (short) or DVI cable disconnected If you want to check for the last "Error Code", after you first turn the TV on, by pressing the front panel ?DEVICE? and ?MENU? buttons at the same time and holding them for 5 seconds, it activates the Error Code Mode. The ?Power LED Light? blinks/flashes (1/2 sec delay) and then flashes again denoting a two digit Error Code indicating no problem or an error has occured since the last Initalization. i.e. "Power light" blinks 3 times (1/2 second delay) and then blinks 4 times then 1 sec delay and repeats a few times. This would mean "Error 34 - Lamp abnormality". See below for error codes..... Error Code - Description or issue 12 - No Error detected, check Power Supply 32 - Lamp Cover is open 33 - Air Filter Cover is open 34 - Lamp abnormality 36 - Light Engine (DMD or LAMP Fan stopped) 37 - Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped 38 - Lamp temperature high 39 - DMD temperature high 41 - Short is detected 44 - DVI cable between FMT & Engine disconnected. Sorry for the long answer but it was an open ended question.
