Laptop dvd drive region locked in R1, need to be mostly R2

I regularly travel around the world to work and watch DVD's bought while away.
This has meant that my laptop drive has had the region changed a few times.
Is there a way to make it region free?
Or is there a way to reset the coding to allow me to continue changing the region when away from home?

At the minute it is stuck on region 1 when I live in the UK, region 2.

Any help would be good, a cure would be great!

p.s. I have an ACER Aspire 6920G

Keep in mind you can only change the region 5 times and cannot change it anymore after that (regarless to windows reinstallation , its a hardware thing) you might wanna consider purchasing "dvd region free" or use a 3rd party region free firmware to bypass that

I bought i dvd from usa put it doesnt work in my laptop or xbox or dvd player all it says is wrong region

Hey Steven, can you be a bit more discriptive of the DVD brand, also where are you trying to use it? Is it external drive or Internal? i DVD is a software or brand by Apple, so it might not work on regular PC or XBOX. If it si a regular DVD drive, there wil an option to change the region to USA (region 1). But be aware, most if not all DVDs allow you to change region only a certain amount of times & usually it tells you how many times you have left.

Hi there

Unfortunately there isn't a code fore this, you can only play R1 DVD's on an R1 DVD Player and you can only play R2 DVD's on a R2 DVD Player. You can find DVD's that are R2, that is all you can do.

Some cds of xbox 360 donot run because it requires region code. why is this so

cd's, dvd's,games, etc. if the regoin codes do not match up they will most likely not work. try looking at area codes on your xbox and cd (if it says the code) and see if they match up.
i hope i have helped, feel free to ask me any questions and let me know how it works out!!

The dvd region and css free is a tool that will enable you to watch ..copy and do about all you want with any zone coded DVD without changing the zone ....
anyway ..I understood that if you want to change the zone ..you can do that from the properties...but will only allow you to do it a few times..about 4 times I guess ...
I understood that using a program like this will do just fine ...and you only need it for the zone signed dvd's ...the rest of disks will play just fine ...

Region code lock out

You can only change this code 5 times before it locks out the CD ROM drive. If it's locked out, you will need a new CD ROM drive. Your best bet is to get two external CD ROM drives and set one to region 1 and the other to region 4. This way you don't have to keep buying CD ROM drives. :)

I need to change the region from 1 to 4

You have to go to the device manager of the operating system. List the hardware. Right click on the actual dvd drive and select the area that you want to change the region to. It will display the region.

Dvd stuck on zone 1 when i am a zone 4

You can only change the region code 4 times and on the fourth time it locks on that region and you cannot change it again.
You can upgrade the firmware on your DVD drive to make it region free (if available for your model DVD), but if you install or make a mistake then your DVD drive will be a piece of junk.
The best solution is to run a piece of software that defeats the region code. I use DVD Region Free from www.dvdidle.com, it cost a few dollars and you get free updates forever, I also use their DVD copy program DVD FAB Gold, great software also free upgrades forever.

DVD movies have region codes, and they typically only play on a player or DVD-ROM drive sold in the country where the DVD movie was sold.

The actual region code is in one byte on the DVD (digital versatile disc). The DVD player or drive has a region code in its firmware. Personal computer DVD-ROM players often have the code in the software or MPEG-2 decoder. The two codes must match for the player or drive to play the movie. The code is also printed on the back of a DVD package, superimposed on a small image of the globe.

DVD regional locking is used to control which DVD movies play in which countries or groups of countries. Movies are often released on different dates around the world. Region 1 has its own player that will only play Region 1 discs. Likewise, Region 2 players can only play Region 2 discs and not play any of Region 1's discs. The six codes are:
  1. United States and Canada
  2. Europe and Japan
  3. Southeast Asia
  4. Latin America and Australia
  5. Russia, rest of Asia and Africa
  6. China
please check the DVD region code again and what PLAYER u are using to play on PC / LAPTOP??

where did you buy the DVD player??

Trying to change region to 2 but it has locked me out is there a code i need

you can only change ur region codes a few times then ur drive becomes locked to the last reset.then youll need to reflash ur drive with firmware.theres a program u can get(free)called any dvd which gets around region codes.
I personally would reflash firmware.this sets drive to "0" which is all regions.
simple precedure.locate firmware,download it,write it to a cd,insert cd which then reflashes auto.remove cd.
