TV makes chirping noise, won't turn on!

Philips Smart Series 32 inch TV won't come on, press power button, nothing, light won't even come on, chirping noise when plugged in. TV is 7 years old

  • Oscar52 Jan 26, 2008

By the way this is not a projection TV. Anyway you asked for a chassis number: 32M800 7603. Thank you so much for your help, I live 60 miles from the nearest repair shop, and 17 miles of that is nasty dirt road, so some information ahead would be helpful before I drag this TV to town, thanks again!!

That usually means a problem in the start up or deflection circuits. Diode, Horizontal ouput or driver transformer. What Chassis is this set, and I will be ableto give you some better information. Rca , GE and phillips need to be diagnosedwith the chassis number. Let me know the chassis.

That is usually a symptom of a defective flyback or horizontal deflection component failure. This usually is around 100 to 150 in repair cost, However that depends where you have it serviced. You may wish to call and explain your symptoms most reputable shops will recognize the problem and give you a ball park estimate. Hope this helps.

Has the power button on the TV been used often or not? If so it could be worn out/stuck and the two button leads making unwanted contact.

Can't find install code for philips magnavox smart series plus

Universal remote codes for Philips Magnavox TV are: 0062 0204 0207 0183 0226 0288
Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand

Tv won't turn on at all

no remote but tv was working with front power key? unplug from ac outlet and plug back and listen for any type of indication (noise or chirp) that something energizes inside if theres nothing then suspect a power supply problem, main fuse blown, shorted low volt rectifiers other components could be at fault.

No pic/sound

If you dont here anything then it sounds like the switching power supply or the horizontal output circuits not starting up. this requires troubleshooting with a variac, as well as maybe a scope. If your not trained to work on HI Voltage circuits you should seek assistance with this repair. Theres HI voltage inside these sets even after they are unplugged for a while. sorry i couldnt be of more assistance.
