Unable to use wireless feature on second computer on the network
Using a second computer on the network I am unable to connect to the internet via the wireless option, I have to plug in the Ethernet Cable to use the internet. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix?
Re: unable to use wireless feature on second computer on...
The second computer's wireless card may not have the latest wireless card driver installed or it is not enabled and working. Check Device manager to see if is is working and enabled. I suggest you install the latest wireless card driver.
Next check the wireless card configuration, it needs to have the wireless router's settings, ie SSID and encryption etc.

The wireless feature on a Gateway computer allows you to connect to a network without the hassle of cables. This allows you to browse the Internet conveniently wherever you are. Gateway computers rely on Windows operating systems, which come with a built-in feature to manage your wireless connection. This feature makes turning off your wireless connection an easy process if, for a moment, you prefer to connect to the Internet using a wired connection.
Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel." Click Network and Internet Connections > Network Connection, if you are using a Windows XP Gateway computer. You should see your wireless connection. For Windows Vista and 7 Gateway computers, click "Network and Sharing Center" from the Control Panel and click "Manage Wireless Connections." You should see your wireless connection. Right-click your wireless connection and click "Disable" to turn it off. Close "Network Connections" when you are done.
you could try updating your wireless network driver. click start and right click computer, click manage and then device manager in the computer management window. look for network adapters in the main window and click to open drop menu. find the wifi adapter, right click and click update driver software. you will need to do this via a wired connection
Welcome to Fixya. Nintendo Dsi/DS/Ds XL connects to the internet using wireless connection. You need to know the settings of your router. I've listed below the steps on how you will access the router and to obtain the information needed for you to be connected.
How to access the Router: 1. You need to know the ipaddress of your router. You can refer to the manual or check the Default Gateway of your computer (Make sure that you connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable for you to get the Default Gateway). Click on START then RUN. Type CMD on the small box on the lower left of the screen. Type IPCONFIG on the black window and get the value of your DEFAULT GATEWAY (it starts with 192.168.x.x)
2. Open a Browser, Type the DEFAULT GATEWAY on the address bar of your Browser. It will ask you for a username and password. (Refer to the manual of your router or post a reply so that i can provide you the username and password of your router)
3. Go to the Wireless Settings Page of your router. Look for the SSID or the Network Name and theNetwork Key or Passphrase. You can personalize it so that you can easily remeber the details.
4. Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the Network Key to make it secure.
Now that we already know the setting of the router then its now time to connect the Dsi to the network.
1. Go to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings of the Game
2. Search for an Access Point (SSID)
3. Select your Network (SSID), If you have an open network, just click "OK" and it should work just fine! If it's a Red Padlock, it'll prompt you for a Password or Network Key. This is the reson why we access the router.
Isolate the issue by directly connecting the PC to the router via ethernet cable (if possible).
If you were able to get online while hardwired connected to the router, then check the IP address of the wireless network connection, check the wireless security if the network key matches.
If you cannot get online while hardwired to the router, then directly connect the computer to the modem.
If you were able to get online while directly connected to the modem, then the problem is the internet settings on the router. Check the WAN configuration, such as DHCP or PPPoE.
If you cannot get online when directly connected to the modem, then you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider.
Have you got your own wireless router and you are trying to connect to it?
Are you trying to connect to a wireless network that your wireless card on your laptop can see which is not your own?
To connect to the Internet, you need to have your own wireless router cable or DSL modem that is connected to an Internet Service Provider of your choice.
One of two problems. The Security Key for your wireless connection is wrong, or the McAfee is causing a problem. Most likely conflicting with any other virus software on your computer. Try removing McAfee from the computer and your solution should go away. Try another virus software such as Avast! Home edition. McAfee is known for having issues with wireless internet connections.
With the router powered on, use a small thin object to press and
hold the reset button for exactly seven seconds. The router lights will
flash and this will restore the router to factory default.
Connect your computer to one of the routers lan ports with an
etherent cable. Open your web browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1.
This should show the router status page with the default settings.
This will make the router unsecured again, so be sure to go back into setup and reset your Wireless security. I suggest using WEP authentication, and using a 10 digit ph # for your key (that way its easy to remember).
Have you tried restarting your router? If not, try unplugging the ac power from the router, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. That will usually take care of this problem. If that doesn't work, you can try going into "manage your wireless connections", delete your wireless network from the list, then reconnect to your network.
I recently experienced this on laptop and desktop, using a lynksys wireless. I was able to go into each system to network connections, and tell it to connect. I haven't had a problem since........hope this helps you!
