Levels/Settings I am having trouble changing the setting on my vacuum from 1 or "Low, Hard Surface" to any other setting. Without changing it, I am unable to vacuum on my carpet, since the setting is too low.

Thanks, but even when the handle is upright the setting does not change. Oh well!

These height adjustments are designed so that they will not adjust when the handle is in the "back" position. This is so they will stay where they are set and not self-adjust while you are vacuuming. To change the setting, you need to return the handle to the upright position and the adjust the setting and the machine will go to that position when the handle is lowered.

I'd like to know how old a machine we're talking about here. These machines have only been on the market for a short while. If it's less than a year old, this would fall under the warranty and you should have it looked at by a warranty depot.

Sometimes sand and grit get caught in the height mechanism and will cause it to sieze up. I know this is the case with many Bissell uprights and a few of the Eurekas as well. I have not seen many of these new Hoover Elite's with a rewind and am not familiar with the height adjustment. Most of the Hoover machines use a sliding mechanism and sand, etc. can interfere with the sliding action. I usually clean the area and spray a little pledge furniture polish on the sliding surface. This works very well and will not attract dirt as an oil or grease would. Graphite also works here.

Why does my eureka air speed vacuum not work when in floor mode?

There is an adjustment for carpet and for hard surfaces. Have switched it from carpet to a hard surface. When on carpet it sets up higher on a hard surface it should set lower. If it is to low it work properly either.

The suction using the floor tool is rediculously too hard! my husband cant even use it as it just about rips up the floor, please help?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your Dyson floor tool. From your description of the issue, it sounds as if you may have the floor tool on the incorrect setting for the floor surface you're trying to clean. However, without knowing which exactly floor tool you own, I'm unable to provide specific instructions for resolving this.

I'd encourage you to give our Helpline a call, as one of our advisors will be happy to discuss this issue with you. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

I have the Hoover, self propelled vacuum. I have only used the self propel function a few times, but our babysitter used the feature and now the vacuum only works on the highest carpet setting. The middle...

Move the carpet height control switch to a higher position if the vacuum is difficult to push. If the setting is too low for the carpet being cleaned, the brushes press against the floor preventing the vacuum from moving easily.Set to a medium-high height setting then check.Slide the "Self-Propel" button to the "ON" position if the cleaner does not self-propel. -----------
The self-propel feature operates only when the cleaner switch and the self propel button are both ON. ---------- Try this settings and check. This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Can you advise which setting should be used on different floors, ie hard floors and carpets, theres 2 different settings and I don't know which setting should be used on the different floors

Turn the machine on and look at the bottom. Turn to the two settings. The setting that stops the platten wheel from moving is for hard wood floors. If you cant tell, then setting 1 is most likely for carpets and 2 is for hard wood floors. Your machine is primarily a carpet vacuum cleaner, so 1 should be for carpets.

Using stair attachment, ++water leaks onto floor under the unit;

It may be necessary to remove air from
the system (“prime the pump”) so the
clean solution will flow to the tool properly. Follow
these steps:
1. Attach tool to hose and turn the deep
cleaner ON.
2. Put the tool on a hard surface or
against your hand to block off the suction.
3. Wait a few seconds (can take up to
15 seconds). Then squeeze the trigger
and begin cleaning.

Miele vacuum cleaner not working properly

Is the suction low or ok at the vacuum without the hose attached? If it is ok, then there is a clog in the hose. If it isn't, then check filters, is the speed variable, is the contol set too low. Could be a bad motor, running too slow.

What does the belt tension feel like? Is it possible that the new belt you fitted is a bit too long (and starts to slip as soon as it encounters any real resistance). Any more methodical diagnosis is going to depend on observing which bits of the machine are still moving, and which aren't when the brush roll is stuck. Gather this information with caution, as it's a good way to lose a couple of fingertips. A.
