Either the battery is dead or you need to change the sound setting that keeps unit off when it does not detect sound to protect the battery.

".We have this one. It must be in the sound activation mode, which helps to save the monitor's battery life. If it's in that mode, you'll see what looks like a crying baby icon along the top of the screen and the screen only turns on when sound is detected in the room.
To turn the mode off and keep the monitor on all the time, just press the Menu button on the right (in the middle of the arrows), press the right arrow until you reach the crying baby icon on the far right (so the icon gets big), press the Menu button, and a check mark and an X will appear - the X will be pre-selected and appear red. Just press the Menu button again to select the X and turn that mode off. Once back to the Menu screen, arrow up to the Return button on top right and press the Menu button to exit." The unit may have a back-up battery installed that is low on charge. Replace the back-up battery. The unit is probably still working because you have it plugged-in.
The battery details are a 700mAh, 2.4v, Type Ni-MH. some model number are BY1146, CRP395/CRP395/01.You should be able to pick these up through ebay easily.
I dont think yours is a battery issiue, I would call the manufacture on the first page of the manual. although if you dont replace the charge on the unit at least monthly the batteries wont be healthy. If you are going to store it make sure the alkaline batteries are out of the mic or transmitter unit. and you can unplug the rechargeable one as well. this will help the battery life.
We had the same exact problem, tried replacing the rechargeable batteries but to no effect. We called Phillips directly and they were very nice and are shipping us a replacement unit (they discontinued this model and I suspect this is a known issue).
