Its probably not the backlight but the LCD inverter. Just replaced one on my Acer and all is well. Bought it off of E-bay for under $10. Its a cheap and easy fix if it is actually the problem. Good luck, Todd

Black screen issue

If all lights are coming on, hook a monitor to the video output, if okay the inverterboard just below the laptop screen is defective or the built in backlight behind the LCD display. But! if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics chip.

The screen will not come on when the computer comes on on my dell xps notebook. The laptop comes on but the screen stays black when turned on.

I had a similar problem with a one year old Dell laptop, and it turned out that the screen was OK on battery power, but when you plugged it in to the AC charger the screen went very dark. It turned out to be the LCD backlight inverter, which I purchased from a fellow in Florida for about $16 and installed by following the instructions at http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-replace-lcd-screen-video-cable-inverter-on-dell-laptops/ . Hope this helps you out a bit...

Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop monitor is dark.

It is a posible LCD problem, Might gone defective.

First trouble shooting is to turn off your laptop completele and the remove the battery and the charger and any accesories connected on yur lap top. Then press the power button for 1 minute. It will reset the settings of your laptop to default if you accidentally press the command for the hotkey to turn off the built in monitor and enabled the extended monitor.

If the issue persist it means it is an issue with the LCD and needs to be replaced.

Inspirion laptop 1521. monitor stopped working.

Hi,
The problem is the inverter, possibly a bad connection or a dry solder joint.

To check this remove the screen bezel (plastic screen surround). At the bottom of the screen you will see an elongated piece of circuit board with wires coming from either end covered by frosted plastic.
That is the inverter, check the connections on the inverter (both sides) and power the laptop up to check the display, to remove it gently pull the plugs from each end and remove the screw from the middle and pull the board away.
Look on the back of the inverter itself for a copper coil, if you re-solder the solder points around the coil you may find it works again as components that suffer from extreme heat the solder joints dry causing bad connections, re-floating the solder solves the problem in 90% of cases.

Good luck.

Black screen after startup

You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

D600 screen went very dim

You also might check to see if there is a HOTKEY setting for the brightness of the screen (usually FUNCTION or FN and then some key on the top row).

Replacing the backlight on an LCD is a very advanced and trouble prone procedure, unless you are good with soldering and taking things apart, you should probably use it with an external monitor or think about getting a new machine. :>|
