The VGN-T1XP can use a maximum of 1gb of RAM! It has two slots, one already filled with 512mb, so you need a second of the same size.
Unfortunately, there are no simple covers to remove to access the memory or HDD - so I would assume you need to take the machine apart! So check with a REAL expert first....

Hi,

to upgrade your memory and hard drive: first, shut down the system and remove the laptop battery.

Get a small screw driver that would fit the screws of the laptop. You would see a memory sign, loose that part of the laptop, remove the cover and you would see/access the memory. The same process goes when you want to replace the hard drive. Note that the hard drive is usually placed at the edge while the memory is usually found at the center.

Be very careful while removing the hard drive and the memory.

Concerning the price it would be a bit difficult to ascertain because the price varies from country to country. But I would give you an estimate; for hard drive: 250GB: £42.58, 320GB: £47.93 160GB: £39.07, 500GB: £67.32

While for the memory (Ram), you would get 2GB between 48 and 55 dollar.

Please note that this is just an estimate. You might get where you want to purchase these items and the price me increase or reduce.

Best wishes.

Usually, it is not possible to upgrade the cpu on a laptop. In rare cases where it is possible the upgrade usually costs nearly as much as a new laptop.
However, you can significantly upgrade the laptop's performance by adding more memory and by replacing the old slow hard drive.
Your Sony VGN-Z250 is usually supplied with 3GB of RAM memory. You can replace the existing memory modules with a new kit consisting of 2 x 2GB modules (total 4GB). The type of memory you need is "SO-DIMM" (meaning laptop size) DDR3 - 1066MHz (you may use 1333MHz memory but it will only run at 1066MHz speed). I would suggest either G-Skill or Crucial brand memory. And you can replace the hard drive with an SSD. You'll be amazed at the boost this provides, seriously. I would suggest either Samsung 840 EVO or Sandisk Ultra for an SSD. Both offer super-fast performance compared to your old spinning hard drive, and both have very low power consumption so they run cool and give your laptop a few extra minutes of battery power. You can clone/copy your existing Windows setup onto the SSD using free Macrium Reflect software or free software from the SSD maker's website. Or, you can do a fresh install of Windows.

Hi, Im trying to re-install windows xp pro sp2 on to my sony vaio vgn-t1xp. i booted from the cd, deleted the partitions that were currently on the harddrive, and then went on to format it (NTFS). once...

Once the setup files are copied don't let it boot from the cd-drive anymore, at the prompt "Press any key to boot from cd...", please do not press any of the keys. However you do require the cd in cd-rom for the rest of the setup.

My Sony VAIO VGN-T1 has a 40G hard drive which I want to upgrade to around 320G or as high as possible. I am told 80G is the biggest available in SSD HDD & that to go any higher will be a lesser...

Not the case at all. Capacities range from 8GB all the way to 2TB. You won't get as much storage space per dollar from an SSD but the performance gains will be substantial.

What is the max size and speed of hard drive you can install in a sony viao vgn-fs920?

On the Hard Drive you can put almost anything with it that sony supports I would suggest that you use a external drive 1 TB then there is no problems and everything you have on the old one is accessible. 2G is the max on memory you can get everything at office depot total cost would be around $150 not really hard to install.
