The iron is dripping water when in the steam mode. It is only 2 months old. It totally wets the fabric and leaves spots on the clothes. Help. I had the euro pro steam station iron before and I absolutely hate this one.

Clothes are very difficult to iron when they are fully dry or over-dried in the dryer. Over-dried clothes are resistant to reshaping, which it exactly what ironing is. Removing clothes when they are still slightly damp will make ironing much easier. If you line-dry your clothes, bring them inside to iron when they are not quite dry.

Increasing the temperature setting can ease this issue, however it is important to consider the type of fabric you are ironing.

1st option: Fill the iron up, and let the iron stand as the iron heats for little while before using. This may allow more of the water to be converted to steam.

2nd option: You could try using deionised/distilled water in your iron.

If you find that the water leaks out sporadically, it may be worth pushing the steam button once or twice before applying it to clothing.

Sounds like there are 2 issues, the water is not being heated and the water system has calcium build-up. Get a product called "Lime-Away" most Home Depot's carry it. Fill the tank with it and let is sit overnight. Then drain and fill and flush with clean water a few times. Then disassemble the iron most likely one or more of the contact has a loose wire or ends are burned and carboned up. Clean all contact and replace any burned ends, etc.

ensure that your iron temprature is high enough to generate steam. if ironing delicate cloth ensure your steam option is switched off. if your iron has a filler cap or water container ensure they are fitted securely. water dripping usually when the iron is too cold to turn it to steam or you have a leak somwhere.

2:Use your steam iron on a rigid surface like an ironing board. In a rush, you might be tempted to quickly iron a blouse or pants on the nearest available surface like a bed, carpet or even on a table with a towel draped over it. However, these surfaces may not provide the proper amount of level padding for successful steam ironing, and leaks are more likely to occur. Take the time to set up your ironing board for smooth steam ironing to reduce water leaks on a bumpy surface.

3:Allow your steam iron to heat fully in the upright position before ironing. Because your steam iron is designed to convert water into steam that will easily smooth out wrinkles on bulky fabrics, you can avoid leaks by ensuring your iron has time to get the water to the correct temperature. If you lay your steam iron in the horizontal position too quickly, water that is not hot enough to convert to steam will leak. Give the iron a chance to heat up, and then test your steam function on your ironing board cover or spare fabric swatch before tacking your favorite blouse.

4:Turn off the steam function on your iron when ironing at lower temperatures. Since your iron's steam function is designed to convert the water in your iron to steam at the right temperature, lower iron temperatures can cause water to leak if your steam setting is still activated. For ironing more delicate fabrics, turn off the steam to avoid water leaks.

OMG, how frustrating to be ironing and water shoot out everywhere from this iron....So, to remedy it, I have turned off the steam, use it as a dry iron, and have a spray bottle handy to spray as I iron...love the feel of this iron, but hate the water everywhere...

The rust spot are probably caused by iron in your tap water. I would suggest you put a solution of half vinegar and half water into the water chamber and leave in the iron overnight.

Then switch it on to steam and holding the iron over the sink or over an old towel, the dirt (residue) comes out of the holes on the soleplate. Sometimes if the iron is badly scaled you might need to repeat the descaling.

Once complete, fill again with clean water and steam away, to flush any of the remaining vinegar out of the iron.

Depending on how often you use your iron and how much iron is in your water, you might consider performing this flush process every 2 or 3 months. It will help extend the life of your iron.

Another option is to use distilled water in your iron. Distilled water has all the minerals removed.

I suspect that by placing it on its heel rest the water from the tank is not allowed to enter into the steam chamber and when you go into ironing mode there is a rush of water that is cooling down the sole plate to below steaming temperature. Try keeping it in the horizontal position on a heat proof pad and press the steam button just before going into ironing mode.
