Seagate 120GB 2.5" with USB 2.0 HDD external Case

When I insert the USB HD to my laptop or any other computer, the message "F:\ is not assesible the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" .Nothing can open it,including windows explorer. The properties list everything as 0 bytes even thought i have uploaded several GBs' of contents into it.It was alright few hours before that

May I ask help from any people who may be reading it? Must I format the HD as the only way? I wish to transfer all the contents out before I reformat

All helps are deeply appreciated

Did you try reinstalling the drivers and software for it? I have a Seagate FreeAgent drive and once it went to sleep, it did that exact same thing. I kept playing with it, and rebooting the PC and it finally woke up. On the FreeAgent I was able to then tell it never to sleep again.

I have a problem with my seagate agent go 500 gb. when plugged in to my laptop it doesn't detect it and it freezes my laptop until i unplug it. how can i get to my files in the external hard drive?

try to connect it to other computer, if it doesn't help, hdd is probably broken. If you disassemble, you will find internal hard drive, which you can try to connect to desktop PC to save your data, or look up for some data recovery company

The disk is either damaged or the USB interface is damaged.
1) You could try opening the external case and connect the disk to your computer directly (Using IDE/S-ATA cables)
2) Format the HD and use data recovery software/service.

Check the HDD on a different USB port. It there is still problem, try that with a different computer. If it still shows this issue, try changing the USB cable. If the issue persist, its your HDD.

Power supply for Seagate 400GB

Ebay or seagate.com may be a solution.
I've used those Seagate portables and 2 have caused problems.
Or disassemble the unit, remove the drive and buy a portable case or USB adapter.
