PROBLEM: I have a 1999 Mitsubishi TV, model #WS-65903 that displays green shadows on the right side of all the text that appears on the screen.
BACKGROUND: The TV is 10 years old. It gives a good HDTV picture, though it's not as bright or crisp as newer TV's that I've seen. The TV picture feed is from a DirecTV HD-DVR model 200-700.
MAIN ISSUE: There are green shadow lines on the right side of all the text that is displayed on the screen (commercials, scores, names, etc).
SECONDARY ISSUE: When watching sports, the banner on the top of the screen showing the score, time, etc is cut off so you can't read it. Only the tip of the bottom shows. Mostly on FOX.
MY RESOLUTION ATTEMPTS: I have completed the Advanced Convergence a couple of times. While it does help a little, it will not clear either problem. It did help a little on the shadow lines, but not much. While doing the Blue and Red convergence adjustments I noticed the green line was off in a number of areas. However, I understand that that gun is not adjustable. So, I adjusted the red and blue as best as I could.
I had the top Mitsubishi dealer send out a tech to deal with the banner problem but he couldn't fix it either. He said it was due to the age of the TV and that the alignment & convergence could only do so much.
I would appreciate any information on what I could do the help make the green shadow lines go away or anything I can adjust to get the score banner to show up more. Thanks.
Something is not right here--The green is adjustable in the TECH menu--did this person adjust or try to adjust in the customer or the TECH menu?
If you confirm actual model number I can tell you how to get into the TECH menu--yes--green will not adjust in customer menu--it determines geometry and is only adjusted in the TECH menu.
Also, this set requires any convergence adjustments to be done in 480 and then in 1080--if only adjusted in one mode the other will still be bad.
Let me know if you know how to adjust in TECH menu or not--with exact model number I can tell you how to get there.
If this helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

BY THE WAY: there are two TECH menus--one for adjusting convergence and another for adjusting width, height and all sorts of things--if the picture is cut off top/bottom or sides it can be adjusted in the second TECH menu.
Each requires a 4 digit code with the original remote to access.

I am going to tell you how to get into each of the TECH menus.
WS-65903 is actually a model first sold in 1998.
Menu, 2,3,5,7 and enter will take you to the TECH ADJUST mode--watch what you do.
Menu 2.3.5.9 and enter will take you to the TECH convergence mode-same instructions as the customer mode but hit home twice to save and exit.(four will change from coarse to fine)
In the TECH adjust mode you have to be very careful if you adjust to not make a mistake--home should save any adjustments you make but note the numbers for each item and use the cursor to change them--if you make a mistake there it will be permanent--set will store adjustments you make.

Yes, the set has behind the front speaker grill an inspection plate--remove it and you will find a black block--focus/screen control block.
Go to a blank video input when it does it--locate blue screen control and turn it down a little-if you get faint curved retrace lines most likely the blue screen control is set a little too high.
SD TECH
you have to remove the wood center piece--the inspection plate is behind it.

Thank you for such a quick and detailed response. When the tech was here he was working on the screen adjustment in the tech mode. He adjusted it as best he could. He also did a convergence adjustment. This was over a year ago.
When I did the Advanced Convergence adjustment today I was in the customer menu. I did not know how to get into the tech menu.
My specific model is WS-65903. Yes, I purchased it late in 1998 and received it in early 1999.
I will do the convergence adjustment from the tech mode menu tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.
I am also experiencing a new issue. This started a few days ago.
There are thin blue lines running diagonally across the screen from the upper left side to the lower right side. This is happenning about every 10 minutes........they show up more when the picture is dark. Any suggestions as to how I correct this issue? Thanks again for the quick response.
Thanks again for the quick response.
I took off both speaker grill covers and I cannot see any black plate to remove. There are screws holding the big plastic "V" cover that's around the drop down input buttons but thats it. There is also a big cover on the right side that has a warning sticker about the 220 standby power. Is it behind that? Sorry for the confusion. Thanks.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. Have a good night.
Forgot to mention. I can not get into the Tech menu. When I press Menu on my remote the Setup, Captions Channel, etc options come up and I can't enter the numbers your suggesting (2,3 5,7) to get into the Tech convergence adjustment menu. The Channel, Title input comes up on the top of the screen.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?
