Problem with the sound system (compaq SR1750NX model)

No problem ktotko, just download AND install the AUDIO drivers.

However I do not find a SR1758nx model.
There is a SR1750nx model, and a SR1755 model.

Could it be that the 0 or 5 looks like an 8?

[ Drivers are small pieces of software, that allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.

Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, are a few examples of an O/S. Operating System.

The audio chipset on the Compaq Presario's motherboard, is an example of a device.

People often download the drivers they need, but fail to realize that the drivers need to be INSTALLED also. Otherwise the driver files just sit in a folder, and are NOT installed ]

In the list left-click on - Software and Driver Downloads. (In blue)

Takes you to the page, where you choose what Operating System you are using.

Click on the blue down arrow, to the right of the box, that has - Select - in it.
In the drop down list click on Windows XP.
(Doesn't matter if it's Home Edition, or Pro Edition)

In the list click on the + sign to the left of -
Driver - Original (4)

Spring 2006 Original Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers

Click on - More info. (In blue under the above file name )

The audio driver files need to be DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED.

Post back with the exact model number of the Compaq Presario, and I will lead you step by step in downloading, and installing.

Can't make out what the last number is?
(SR1750 or SR1755)

Hi!

It is very unlikely to get the machine working when the windows 7 HDD was installed in a different type of computer, because all drivers installed with the operating system are related to the hardware from the other computer.
The best solution is to make a clean install, using the windows installation disk, and after that to download from Compaq's site the latest drivers.

If you still have reasons to use that previous installation, you can try to do the following:

1. Boot from the Windows installation disk
2. Follow all steps until it discovers the previous installation on the HDD
3. Choose to repair it (or better upgrade, if this option is available).

But doing so there only 50-50 chances to get it work, or to get it to be stable.

If the drive cannot read dvds, try a cd. If it cannot read that either, then the drive is probably bad. You will need to replace it.

go to the compaq sight and download the drivers and software from them, burn to a disk and then run it

You have the option of upgrading your processor without buying a new system. I wouldn't purchase the other system, If you looking to upgrade look at the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6400+, that will step you up to 3.2GHz, which is compatible with your motherboard. You can get more information on it HERE. And for more information on your motherboard you can find that HERE.

The only thing you want to make sure off is that you have enough power to handle this processor. If you have a 450 or up power supply you'll be fine.

is that a pci sound card or the one on the motherboard ?

if it is the internal one... go to www.compaq.com and support... then enter the model number or have it autodetect your computer... install the sound driver for your operating system.

Have you tried the Compaq Application driver recovery?

Click on Start , All programs , and then Hewlett-Packard or Compaq .


NOTE: If the Hewlett-Packard or Compaq folder does not appear, skip to the next step.

Then, click on any of the folders below (just one of them will be available depending on the model of your computer):

1. HP Pavilion PC Tools ,

• Compaq Presario PC Tools ,
• PC Help and Tools , or
• PC Recovery Tools .

1. Click HP or Compaq Application Recovery .
2. Select Driver Installation and click Next .

Select which drivers are to be installed, If you don't have this console go to windows update to see if microsoft can auto update for you,

Did you find your hdd in the bios when it first start . if you have no important files in the second HDD then you can directly remove partition and repartition it in the disk manangement.
