Sound no picture
When you're asking for help online, it's a good idea to provide more information. It's really hard to determine the problem without seeing the set, so tell us anything you can. Some information that may be helpful:
1) Make/model of the failing part
2) What's connected to it?
3) When did you first notice the problem? What were you doing right before the problem struck?
4) Have you seen any error messages?
5) Is the problem constant or intermittent?
6) Be specific about what you observe. In this case: Does "no picture" mean the screen is dead, or that it goes from that deep "off" black to the slightly lit black that you get when the screen is on but getting no input? Does the screen flicker? If you do something to change the input, does the screen react in any way? Is the sound normal? Do you hear anything unusual? Does the set smell OK? Feel around; is anything unusually warm?
Some troubleshooting steps to try:
1) Turn it off, then back on
2) Check cable connections; turn it off, and unplug then replug every cable coming out of it, then turn it on
3) Turn it off, disconnect anything that it's connected to, then turn it on
4) Turn it off, unplug it for a few minutes, push and hold in the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it in and turn it on
5) Swap out any cables you can
6) Swap out any accessories you can (verify that peripherals are working); in this case, what is supposed to be supplying the picture to the TV? An internal tuner? External antenna? Cable box? DVD player? If you can, take those devices to a working TV to see if they work if connected to another TV.
Give us any further info you can, including whether any of the troubleshooting steps had any effect.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I have seen the Manual available on CD for around $24. I was hoping to find the info I need online...
Does anyone know what lamp model # it may have. I am trying to brace myself for the inevitable $$$$$.
FYI - It is a 1999 Mitsubishi vs80803. Mitsu's website only goes back to 2002 for .pdf manuals. Bummer.
Update...
I ended up having a local TV repair shop pickup the set. Their initial diagnosis was a bad power supply.
Should be ready in about 2 weeks. I'll post up what the eventual outcome is.
Again, thanks for the help!
