I have the same error code for my MP830! How do I fix this?

  • Mzzperk May 13, 2008

I was trying to print something, and it kept popping up on the screen that I had a service error 5C10. I tried wht they said, and turned the printer off and then on again, but with the same result. I checked the ink cartridge holder, and none of the ink cartridge lights were on. What can I do to fix this? I really need my printer.

    Thanks,

    Mzzperk

Same here, MP530, so turned it off at the power button on the front. Turned back on... same error. But then, pulled out the power cord from the back, then reinserted it. Error has disappeared, maybe for good, maybe not. At least I can now print!

Go to the Control Panel. Double click on Printers and Faxes. Right click on the mp530, click Properties, Maintenance, Cleaning. Do a test pattern when requested. If it doesn't look correct, click Cleaning again, or Deep Cleaning.

Okay so I own this printer and I had this error. I did everything said on practically every forum out there and was ready to toss the thing. Then I figured, well I have some stock piles of new ink for this thing, they are useless now so I may as well try. I took out all the old ink cartridges. I wiped down the inside of the ink carriage. I made a point to wipe where the metal contacts were and where the ink came out. I turned it on, prayed, and pressed print. Now its working. So, no this is not your proverbial "death" error. You just need to clean the printer carriage and replace the cartridges.

Error 5C10, 5C00, and Error 6A00

Are purge unit errors. Usually this means something is stuck in the purge unit, or that the unit is broken or that the unit needs to be cleaned. This is the assembly under the print head when it is normally locked in its home position.

In our shop, we disassemble the machine, remove the purge unit and give it a bath. Reassemble and usually (80%) it works. Other times the purge unit has to be replaced.

I did ALL that...to no avail...

THEN!!
I powered the thing on--and as soon as I could, I changed the setting from a bottom (cartridge) feed, to the back feed, all the while waiting for the thing to give me the death-error, but NO!!

I was able to quickly print my labels out from the back feed!!

BUT!!

I see that my death error is back, but at least, for now, I was able to print out those important labels..

Hope this helps!

I think there was a broken pieces of hardware in the print carriage.
According to the Canon Center this one cannot be fixed. If your printer is under warranty, send it to them.

SOURCE: Service Error 5C10

There's a couple things you can try:

First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.

Double check that your ink tanks are seated right too

Also, be sure that your scanner is UNLOCKED...
With the machine turned OFF:
Open the document cover, look on the tray where the glass is -- and then look to the LEFT side of the glass and you will see pictures of an opened lock and a closed lock and a little switch...
Make sure the switch is next to the UNLOCKED position.
WAIT 5 seconds or so and then turn the unit back on.

If you STILL have the error code, try these two types of resets:

To clear the memory:

  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
To do a stop/reset:

To clear error messages displayed on the LCD or if the printer is not functioning as expected, it may be necessary to simultaneously press Stop/Reset and ON/OFF buttons.
  1. With the printer powered on, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the <Stop/Reset> button then press the ON/OFF button.

  2. Once the printer is powered off, hold down <Stop/Reset> and then press <ON/OFF>.
If none of the above clears it up, you may have to have the machine serviced.. check to see if you are still under warranty.

Good Luck!

This error is a message indicating print head/ink failure on the printer.
I would try the following 2 things:
1. replace the ink cartridges/print heads. test to see if the problem is fixed.
2. If this does not solve the issue, you may need to either send it to the manufacturer for repairs (if under warranty), send it to a local repair person to service- or look for a new printer to buy (which may actually save you money).

SOURCE: Won't print - Screen message: "Service error 5C10

Hi,

This is a VERY VERY common problem on this model. Usually this is a hardware failure - ( logic board ) which is not economical to replace compared to the cost of the printer. However, the main concern is Canon does not make this kind of multifunctional machine anymore, which combines print, fax, scan and print to CD/DVD.

There are few tricks that might work. The tricks are mentioned below :-

A)

1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not,
press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal..

B)

Open the machine and remove the ink cartridges then look inside with a flash light and make sure nothing is in the path of the carriage.
Then turn off the machine and wait 30 seconds. Turn it back on and wait for the insert cartridge message. Then reinsert the cartridges into the machine.
Then move the cradle back and forth a few times manually by hand.
Then close the cartridges access door and turn the machine off.
Then unplug it and wait 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes plug it back in and turn it on.

If this does not solve the problem, you need to send the unit for repair.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Received a service error 5C10, what do I need to do?

No 5C10 code to refer. I assume your error is 5010. If yes, that's mean your scanner unit is not functioning well. Need to replace it.

You can try and clear the error by holding down the power button and waiting for it to turn off then wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. {you might need to unplug it to get it to turn off}

or

Hold down the stop/reset and then push the power button while the printer is on. The printer should shut off then wait 30 seconds and then hold the stop/reset again and push the power button and the printer should turn on with the error cleared.
