Friend brought to me to see if i can fix. it has been sitting for a couple of weeks. I was able to turn on/ off may times yesterday, thought it was fine until end of day, could no longer turn it on. when I got it charge was around 10% if symbol on screen is correct, I let it charge as I was using it through day, I am thinking that it may need to run down to a certain level before it will turn on again. I don't know if it can be connected to a pc, no sd card, no manual.
The battery inside the tomtom is a lithium iron type. They generaly do not have any memory effect so you don't need to run them down as it serves no purpose. You can charge lithium iron whenever you want. Sometimes if a lithium iron battery drops below its absolutly flat voltage which is somewhere around 3.2 volts in a tomtom , it wont take a charge. This is because the charger has a protection circuit inside it that shuts it down if too much current is drawn. As such if the tomtom battery is really really flat then the charger will see it as a dead short and will shut itself off meaning that the battery wont charge at all. If you open up the tomtom , then using some wire off-cuts insert them into the batteries little plug holes. Connect a 9v battery to those 2 bits of wires " THE RIGHT WAY ROUND " for about 10 seconds . The battery will then be shocked upwards in voltage. This might then be enough for the charger to see the tomtom battery at over the 3.2 volts. Hopefully the charger will then charge it. Be carefull with is 9v as its actually over-voltage and charging lithium iron batteries can be a bit dodgy if you do it for too long. Actually , using a bench power supply is a much safer idea and you can also limit the current too but if youre not technical and dont have the right kit , then its worth trying the 9v battery thing as last resort. hope this helps.
Guide d'utilisation
I have looked at a few tomtom ones v1 & v3 often when the unit fails to charge it is either down to a dodgy charger or a dodgy usb socket on the unit. To rule out the charger try a different one or a usb lead to a computer, or better still a powered hub as hubs generally will supply more power than the computer usb. If this fails then open up the unit and inspect the usb socket. If someone has been too rough with it the smd connector will break the solder joints this can be resoldered but be carefull. The five wires on the back are very small and can be better exposed if you lift the metal back up and a very fine tip iron can solder the wires back down. After repairing check that none of the pins are joined togeather and clean any loose solder away as this will probably fry the tomtom or your computer or both when powered up. This is not a job for the squeamish but i have had some sucsess
Really helpfull information, thanks.

According to Kevin A who says, and thanks by the way (There is a reset button on the back at the top of the unit. It should be on the right side as you turn the unit around. Insert a paperclip or pin into this hole, and the unit should reset) at it works 100% because I tried this morning after being quoted £55 to have my GO910 fixed and now it works after the price of a paper clip. Fix it yourself, you need either a new battery and or motherboard. Relativly easy to do! 10 small torx screws for motherboard and 2 ribbons, then a few more screws and loosen the harddrive and screen for battery
Battey and motherboard for less than £50 pounds off ebay
