Most likely you will need a Supco 3 in 1. It's a capasitor, relay and overload assy. You can buy the exact replacment at http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=mzd2766&searchTerm=img_53200&RefineSearch=0&imgMfg=Maytag parts #4 and #6. They cost a total of $83.35 plus shipping. If you go with a Supco 3 in 1 like I have suggested you can find it at http://www.appliancepartsonline.net/index.php?target=products&product_id=207 for $21.95. It's very easy to install. It only has 3 wires that go on the compressor and two that you connect the power to. The instruction are on the part and very easy to understand. The 3 in 1 is also a much stronger part and will out last the factory part by a long shot. Good luck.
SOURCE: amana side by side compressor not running
Cleaning the fins is always good. Is the fan by the compressor running? It needs to help cool the compressor. The description you mention sounds like the compressor is overheated and tripping the thermal overload on the compressor. See if you can turn if off for a day to let it all return to room temp then see if the compressor kicks on. If it was overheated it should run again for a while before overheating again. Let us know how that works and we can go from there.
SOURCE: Kenmore side by side not cooling
If everything is working, that you can see and hear, then I think you are low on coolant. A set of gauges will show you for sure or if you take the back panel off in the freezer and look at the cooling coils, they should have a light coat of frost all over. If it is low on coolant then they might have some frost on a few coils or none at all.
