Limited connectivity Basicaly i got a link builder 3c16170 12 port hub, I'm limited in my computer knowledge and I'm tryin to figure out whats going on here. any time anyone connects to this thing it says theres limited or no connectivity. It says the network did not assign a network address to the computer. I was pretty much testing this thing to see if I can get small home LAN set up for me and my roomates. any ideas on what i can do for this?

A network hub allows computers to be connected together...up to 12 of them in this case...but it doesn't provided any other network services such as DHCP (automatic address assignment). I may be able to provide better information if you can tell me what operating system you're using.

Here's one way to set up a network for file sharing...if you're using Microsoft Windows XP:

Connect the computers to the hub and turn them all on. You may need to manually assign addresses to the computers, (ask if you need a detailed procedure) but Windows XP will usually assign itself a default address.

On each computer, click on Start -- Control Panel -- System -- Computer Name -- Network ID -- Now give the computer a name and Workgroup name. In order for the computers to share files, the workgroup names must be identical on every computer.

Next, click on My Computer and Right-Click on Shared Documents -- Sharing & Security -- Share this folder on the network

Now if you click on My Network Places, it should be possible to see the shared folders on the other computers.

Good luck with this....and I hope this is helpful!!

I have a mfc 465-cn and I have another computer and tried to install my printer. once I get to the part of installation where I insert the usb cord into the port and turn on the machine it doesn't...

hello

have you tested all USB ports and with other applications (ie: digital camera, cell phone, USB drive stick, etc..) ?
if one USB does work, buy a USB hub and salvage this working USB port (if that is the case here, that only one USB port on your computer functions) . This will allow you to use other USB ports on the hub . But beware you will have limited useage as to what you can or cannot plug in. USB hubs generate 500mA typically for a 4 port hub, so any peripheral requiring more than 100mA-120mA current downstream may not work on this hub.
if you need the manual to your Brother printer, go to this link and download or save onto your computer

When plugged into pc get error on pc power surge on usb hub port

Some computers have a limited power capacity on the USB ports, another possibility is that your gps battery is too low to be charged via the USB connection, try charging it with a wall or car adapter first, then connect to your pc.

Ps2 port doesn't recognize Microsoft Optical mouse

You might think about a USB hub for all your USB devices. ps2 port is more or less dedicated for mouse, which is why your mouse pointer is stuck in the middle of the screen. Go ahead and get an externally powered USB Hub to power other USB devices. To answer, ps2 for mouse needs just a mouse, not USB device.

How do i hook up my hp officejet all in one printer to my dell printer?

Generally, you don't connect one printer to another. You connect both printers to the computer (If you have a limited number of USB ports, then a powered USB hub is suggested.

Limited or no conncetivity?

Seems to be issue with the switch. If you can get internet after bypassing the switch then it is for sure an issue with the switch. try connecting the cable to other ports of the switch.

If it still does not work then it is time for you to replace the switch.

Rate it,if it helps.

Dynex 4 port Hub

Try to assign an IP address to the second computer like 192.168.0.101 Subnet 255.255.255.0 and Default gateway 192.168.0.1

Note: This one is an example of IP address, the IP address that you need to assign is in range to the router that you have or with in range to the modem.

Wont connect and software cd

To connect a router or a dsl modem to a switch you either have to use port 4 or use a utp crossover cable. As you can see on the Netgear FS605 the modem/router has to be connected to port 4.

The correct way to connect these devices is:

Modem > Router > Switch > Computers
