Whatever I print looks "dirty",

If the cartridges are not HP brand, that may be the problem.

Try to figure out exactly what color the "grey" background color is.
If it is truly grey, the black cartridge might be the problem.

You can also try a different type of paper.
Some paper may respond to the printing process differently than others.

If you find that the background is a red, the scanner will have to be removed and cleaned.
These models have a tendency to collect red (magenta) toner on the scanner assembly lenses.

Red color cannot print

I presume the LCD screen on the printer also shows that there is toner. Take the toner out and reinsert it. If that doesn't work use the hp software to troubleshoot it may give more information.

There is no Gray, it is Green gray. Photos are not what is seen on screen, Need calibration or something.

The colors on your computer monitor might differ from the device output. Select Screen Match in the Color tab of the printer driver.

For most users, the best method for matching colors on your screen to your printer is to print sRGB colors. The printer uses sRGB and automatically optimizes color output.

There is an override sequence and it works well. Press the select button (checkmark) to indicate Main menu. Press right-arrow (RA) to select System Setup. Press Select , then RA to Print Quality, Hit select. RA to Replace supplies and hit Select. Now, RA to Override Out and Select. Confirm with Select again. Your 2600n will now run even with an empty toner cartridge.

1-it may be that there is a color that is not printing well run a test page and it will show you which one is off

2-if they are generic toners sometimes the colors are not as "deep" as the Originals, you may consider returning them as defective and trying a different batch of gen.
