What is the coil gap

The coil makes the spark to fire the motor. A magnet in the flywheel spins past the coil to make the spark. The coil probably has some freedom of adjustment to move it close to the magnet. Not too close or it will rub. Not too far, or you will get a weak spark.

Honda es6500 won't start has fire, compression , gas, not voltage at carb, oil light on then goes out when cranking

If you run 12volts to the carb, will it run? I assume since it has no power at carb as you stated, that it has a fuel shut off at carb and will need voltage to activate magnet.

I have a eu2000i honda generator that will not start. It is getting spark and will fire when I put a little gas in the cylinder. It is obviously not getting gas, but I don't know what to do about

needle valve stuck.on the bottom of the carb there is a bolt holding the bowl. inside there is a needle valve attached to the float. hondas have a spring loaded rubber tipped needle valve and tends to get stuck in storage(unless it is left empty this will happen almost every time) check seals on bolt and bowl before re installing .

It starts with the switch fine but when i let go of the key it cuts off

Check for faulty low oil sending unit or oil level low or dirty oil (some generators have a fuel cut-out solenoid at the carb ). Key switch will override the low oil safety. Easy test, remove wire from oil sending unit. If unit runs, and oil has not been changed in a while, service engine and retest.

In Briggs & Stratton motors used in mowers or similar equipment the spark is generated by a magneto : a magnet situated on the flywheel passes in front of the ignition coil and generates the spark.
If the engine is backfiring then the flywheel is incorrectly positioned - take it our and rotate it for one bolt

Well, only 2 things, is it getting gas?? Is is getting spark?? Squirt some gas down the cylinder and see if it will fire. Yes? No? If it fires, but won't run, the carb is messed up, or the fuel is not going to the carb. Then check the spark with the plug resting on metal and connected to its wire. If you have no spark, that is what you have to chase down. Sometimes these things sit and the contacts on the alternator rust over, (iron) and don't develop any juice, they have to be cleaned, the coil could be shot. The Carb might have been cleaned, but is it clean? Those jets are finicky. And gas that sits turns into rock. Check it out. Hope this helps.

9hp briggs and stratton engine has gasoline in the engine oil

Old gas, gone bad from sitting. Drain all gas out and use carb cleaner in unit to clean. Add fresh gas.

Gas in the oil on my honda generator

Your needle/float is stuck, which will allow fuel to flow though the intake...past the piston..and into the crankcase. If has been awhile since you used it, most likely the gas has gummed up the insides of the carb. Otherwise, you may have had something get into the fuel bowl that is keeping the needle from closing. Best way to solve is to remove and clean the carb. Replace fuel filter if needed also.
Hope this helps
