Breaking news in the ongoing battle against crime involves your GPS and your garage door opener. Many thieves are now breaking into cars and stealing both the GPS and the garage door remote. Their motive: turn on the GPS and push the "home" feature. The GPS will then lead the thief to your home where the garage door opener will provide access to your garage and if it is attached, to your home.
THE FIX: Reprogram your GPS so that "HOME" takes you to a restaurant near your home or to a police station near your home. At least that way, the thief will not know where you live.
Many cars are broken into these days because owners are not aware of how desperate many thieves have become. The prize is often the GPS which sells on the street for $100.00 or more. Do not leave your GPS in sight when you park your car, do not use a windshield mount which leaves a tell-tale ring on your windshield, and do not use a plastic disk stuck to your dash [all signals to a thief that there is a GPS hidden somewhere in the vehicle].
