Transparent Desktop Icons

Turn your desktop icons transparent by following these steps:

Step 1:
Goto Control Panel.
Step 2:
Goto System.
Step 3:Click on Advanced.
Step 4:
Click on Settings in Performance Area.
Step 5:
Click on Visual Effects tab.
Step 6:Click on 'Use drop shadows for icons label on desktop'.

STEP 1: Check to see if Java is installed

1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel
2. In the window that opens look for an icon named Java.
- If you see the Java icon double-click it, go to the Update tab and click Update Now and follow the instructions.
- If you don't see the Java icon go to http://www.java.com and click Free Java Download and follow the instructions.

STEP 2: Enable Java in your browser

Internet Explorer
1. In Internet Explorer on the toolbar click Tools > Internet Options.
2. Click the Programs tab.
3. Click Manage add-ons.
4. Scroll down until you see add-ons named "Java". If they say they are disabled, click them and click the Enable button.
5. When you're done click Close, OK then close Internet Explorer.

Firefox
1. Open Firefox and go to Tools > Options.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. Ensure there are checkmarks next to Enable Javascript and Enable Java.
4. Click OK, then close Firefox.

STEP 3 (Optional)

If Java still isn't working:

1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Java icon.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Click [+] next to Default Java for browsers.
5. Ensure your browser has a checkmark next to it.
6. Click OK.

COMPUTER WAS TURNED OFF IMPROPERLY. TURN-ON WAS IN SAFE MODE NOW EVERYTHING IS LARGER AND BLURRED

Keeps shutting down.

To resolve the issue, Please perform the following steps:

Step 1: BIOS Reset

To reset the BIOS defaults, follow these steps:

1. Restart the computer and press F2 (F10 in some Notebooks) as soon as the HP logo appears.
2. Go to Exit menu and select Load BIOS defaults or press F9.
3. Go to Exit menu and select Save changes and Exit or press F10.

This will reset the BIOS defaults. Now, when the Notebook restarts, press F8 repeatedly until the start up menu appears. Select the Safe Mode and press Enter Key to enter in Safe Mode and then perform the step 2.

Step 2 : Disable the "Automatically Restart" under System Failure:

1. Click Start, right-click the My Computer icon, then Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab, then Settings in the Startup & Recovery section.
3. Remove the check mark next to Automatically Restart under System Failure.
4. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window, then click OK to close the System Properties window.
5. Restart the computer.

Step3: Reinstall Power management

To reinstall Power Management in Windows XP, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, select Control Panel, and then choose Performance and Maintenance.
2. Click the System icon to open the System properties window.
3. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
5. Right-click the ACPI Fixed Features button and select Uninstall.
6. Restart the system.

On restarting the system, Windows will automatically detect and install Power Management on the computer.

all icons on my pc desktop are always in selected mode(these looks like when we select an icon to do something,that means these are shaded with blue color,but i can select 1 or more icons at a time as usual to do what i want)so i face no problem.but i want to get rid of this situation.when i was copying text from a web page on desktop,then i tried to paste on desktop.then it created.i forgot that which options i clicked how it created.plz help me.windows xp(professional sp-3) operating system

If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work.
To check for web content: Display Properties>Desktop>Customize
Desktop>Web - make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4. Under the "Visual Effects" tab I Chose (checked) Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels

OR 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
4. Click to clear the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop check box, click Apply, and then click OK two times.
5. Close Control Panel
